Tree Rings LLC can truly "validate" how truthful Philip's article is! We hire boomers and seniors due to all of the great skills, experience they offer our clients and their customers!

This article is so ridiculous. As someone who has spent a lot of time in Europe, I can tell you that this is just the US gov't trying to brainwash us all into accepting not retiring. The Europeans have a fantastic quality of life in general and the only hope we have of that in this country is retiring. We have pitiful, if any, vacation while working and there is not enough living in this country in general. As someone who has not worked in this country for several years even though I am well-educated and in my 40s, I can attest to the fact that there are many economically well-off boomers who are hogging excellent jobs. There will be NO high demand for workers in the next few years. This is all part of yet another gov't conspiracy just like when they said computers would free all of us for more leisure time, i.e. a drastically reduced work week. Social Security would be fine if Americans were smart enough to demand it--after all we have paid into it--and other programs aimed at quality of life. Sadly, all this country is about at this point is enabling the 1% and brainwashing the rest of us into accepting less and less. Retirement should be a human rights issue, not an economic one. And if Americans knew how much is being spent on the military, they would demand far better services.

1. There is no physical reason to retire. - Yes, there is. I won't have to get up early in the morning as I need my beauty rest.

2. Continued work can support healthy aging, including better physical and mental health. - I'm tired of working, I need my rest for the betterment of my physical and mental health.

3. Well-being and happiness are boosted when people are engaged in challenging and meaningful activities. Work is a major place to find such activities in our society. - challenging and meaningful activities, here????

4. Older people have rich experience and mentoring skills to help enrich the workplace experiences of younger colleagues. - I would like stay "rich" with experience.

5. Declining numbers of younger workers, courtesy of lower fertility rates, will raise the need to retain older employees in the workforce. - I believe the reason why we have declining population is because of abortion, condoms and pills, not declining fertility rates.

6. We need and like the money, and shorter retirements sharply cut the risk we will outlive our assets. - I would like to enjoy my retirement 'assets' before we run out of it!

"5.Declining numbers of younger workers, courtesy of lower fertility rates, will raise the need to retain older employees in the workforce." WHAT??????? The majority of people I know are stuck in whatever position they are in because too many boomers will not retire and let the younger generation make enough money to support the mess they have created, "Courtesy of lower birth rates"? If anyone between the ages of 25-34 could afford a kid I'm sure we would have more. What a joke...

Agree that one should never retire-from-LIFE. This does not mean that you should continue to work for $'s. Five of the six advantages in the article can be had without working for $'s. In fact. as soon as you start working for money, past your retirement.. all the other benefits disappear!

Yes absolutely, all these poor fools digging ditches, slinging tar on the highways, climbing cable poles should just keep working until they die. Then none of us would have to worry about how we are going to pay these gosh awful pensions not to mention the problems with Social Security. By all means, let's just all work till we die. Under no circumstances should we means test Social Security or require those making over 108,000 to pay more for Social Security. And we must keep providing inexpensive Medicare for all you millionaires. We know you will work until you die because it takes alot of effort to watch all those dividends pour in. And we must not forget to keep the tax on those dividends at 15% and those Social Security checks coming so your kids and grandkids can go to Harvard Law and you can take all those cruises to the mediterranean.

"Labor shortages will be making headlines in a few years."

And exactly what empirical evidence can you cite supporting that wild claim? There is not a single economist of note positing such balderdash. This writer needs to stop playing with Tarot cards and undertake some academic examination of economics.

After working some 35 years plus and comparing it to working from Monday to Friday. The weekend has arrived! I don't want to be attached to the halter until I drop. My father died at 61 and his father at 74; they were both in good shape but had hidden cardiovascular issues. I don't know how many good years are in front of me but don't wish to be found at my desk. I have nearly everything paid off and have a healthy 401k, roth, DB pension and social security. I will spend it as if I were going to live to 95. But I will hop on that bus when it arrives. Watch tv, surf the net, travel frugally, read the morning paper and raaise a garden. I will not be bored and the alarm clock will be shut off.
