I think eliminating the income cap on Social Security would be the easiest and quickest way to solve a lot of the insolvency problem. Next means testing is another good solution. Anyone making, say $250,000/yr. or above (not including Social Security), doesn't really need Social Security. If I were making that kind of income, I would be glad to give mine up.

The only answer is to make it too dangerous for the greedy republican scumbags to stick their head's out the front door. ...Lest it blown off!

During the past four years the government has totally wasted billions of dollars and programs that don't work, financed useless green energy programs and more. My solution to the Social Security is instead of the dumb programs, give each person over the age of 65 a two million dollar tax free lump sum and cancel the social security all together.

How much could that be? Most likely less than Solindra cost.

Do not raise the age, because in families where the genetic tendency is not longevity will be unfairly eliminated. I come from such a family. We all worked, never took unemployment and contributed money to this fund for our security and entrusted it to Congress who are supposed to be the fiduciaries of it. It would not have run low if the money weren't set aside to the recipients who contributed...no...it was commingled and wasted! I think the best resolution is to terminate the blue chip and lifetime benefits of Congress members. They don't deserve more than us...in fact...in many cases they deserve less!

Why doesn't the government pay back the Social Security fund for all the money they have taken from it? The administrations have caused all this BS. Pay it back and stop using it as a government fund to be used anyway the government wants to.

The problem with social security is that Congress does nothing to implement proposals- many are reasonable: ie raising the retirement age for individuals born after 1960, etc. All we get from Congress is lip service. Perhaps if it were more in touch with the real world then things would change. How is it they conviently raise their own salaries but they can seem to do a cost of living for social security recepients!

I'm 56yrs old and the time I retire in 66 (2months) full retirement age I will be living on a tiny pension and ss . I will have to live with the fact that my income will cover only the necessities and leave me with not much left.

did you know that our Social Security tax revenue are invested in special non-marketable US goverment Bonds that go to finance the federal goverment defiicit spending. It's over 3 trillion or more that the goverment owe's Social Secutity.

And they cant pay it. During the 1930"s F.D.R. signed the Social Security act, and it was not to be touched. Look who's been dipping into it !

Our own goverment .They need to pay us back, and get Social Security where it should be today.

The original SS plan works just find. If the Govt. would pay back the money it took from the trustfund fighting wars there would be more than enough in the trustfund. the only thing that needs to be changed back is the power of the presidents using that money for anything except what it was ment for.

I intend to fight to the death to keep Social Sebillcurity and medicare just the way it is set up today, no changes. Those who want to do away with it are the ones who dont need it. Pay those people a lump sum and get them out of the system. There are many other ways to save the system. Congress makes too much money for one. Stop paying them a salary at all and delete their medical benefits entirely. Let them survive on the millions in payoffs they already get and they can buy their own insurance. EX Presidents dont need secret service protection for life either and we can cut the massive defense bill.
