The Wall Street Journal: "A Senate agreement pushed Congress significantly closer toward a bill that would expand the federal government's role in propping up the housing market."

Reuters, via Yahoo: "President George W. Bush said on Monday the U.S. economy was working through "tough times," and credited Congress with making some progress on a new law aimed at helping the troubled housing market.

The New York Times: "So many people have so many things they can no longer afford. This is an excellent time to be a repo man."

Associated Press: "The Home Depot Inc. reported a 66 percent drop in first-quarter profit Tuesday due to a large one-time charge and continued weakness in the housing market."
