Putting Odds on Obama’s Treasury Secretary Candidates

Lightnin's comments are what the Republicans have come to represent to me. I have generally voted for Republican presidential candidates including Bush in 2000. I thought he handled 9/11 well and agreed with going into Afghanistan. Iraq was a travesty as has been most of his foreign policy.

He has done a lot of things that have left this country worse off than what he found. That is an opinion held by about 80% of the country if the polls can be believed at all.

I'd like our President to improve our country and the lives of the people in it to the degree he can. If Lightnin would have it go to hell, rather than have it improve under a Democratic president, well I guess that explains what kind of patriots are elephants.

If Obama governs in the same reckless and self-serving, arrogant fashion as Bush has for the last 8 years I would expect your so-called "support." However I think, and hope, that will not be the case. Use some perspective.

Geithner - self serving

Summers - arrogant

Rubin - Understands the realities even if forward doesn't

Volcker - My favorite, but I'm biased against a brain at that age.

Bair - Self serving media seeker

Dimon - Talked the Treasury out of Billions - Fox in the Hen House? He did his job well for the bank, but Govt is not business.

Buffet - He doesn't want this headache - what a joke, he is way too smart for that!

Thanks so much "lightnin" for that incredibly productive comment. THat's just the sort of attitude that will bring folks together to solve the incredible mess we're in.

What I'm more worried about is the possibility, however remote, that Lawrence Summers or Robert Rubin would win a cabinet post. Both are steeped in exactly the sort of failed policies, and pathetically old-fashioned views that have gotten us here (See, for instance, Summers' position that women are just not as smart as men--I thought we got rid of that version of anti-feminism in the 1970s). Even economists are starting to question the blind faith in "markets' both these guys posit. This is a chance to make a real change in economic direction of this country; I hope we take it.

To all of the Obama supporters, whatever your reason for supporting him: We who opposed Obama will extend him and your chosen party EXACTLY the same sort of support, cooperation, and assistance that you have so generously and enthusiastically given President Bush for the past 8 years, and we will ENJOY doing so, just as YOU have all this time. In fact, we'll try to be even MORE generous! Elephants have LONG memories, you know.
