Sheriff Wants Evictions Halted During Winter

Everyone is going through tough economic times I think that what should happen to help the landlord and the tenant is setting up a payment plan so people aren't forking out all their money. Like as long as your paying something on your balance then that way people and their children aren't out in the cold and the landlords aren't losing out completely.

DR Sheriff Jones:

While I admire your heart and compassionate for people who are in this situation, what about the landlords who may be put into unfair financial stress because they may have to cover the costs of two mortgages due to their delinquent tenants not paying? While I feel bad for these people, there are options out there for them instead of putting stress and hardships on another family.

Quote "My family and I are being evicted in this freezing, snowing Oregon winter. I lost my job this fall and am at this time, five months behind in rent. I tried to work it out with my negligent landlord to no avail. He bought this house and property and has raped it and the land it is on, using part of the land for commercial gains. He's put nothing back into this place, even when I begged him to fix certain things in the house and outbuildings. He so very obviously has been sucking the profit out of this place and putting nothing back into it."

If you haven't paid your rent in 5 months where is all the profit coming from that he has sucked out?

Dear Sheriff Jones,

I heard you in the interview on NPRadio at noon today. It is good to hear some good common sense in a world that has lost the way. I admire you for your conviction on this point--in some cases not to set delinquent home-"owners" out into the cold--and pray that it may lead other sensible citizens to find our way to a more liveable social order.

I am a Catholic priest and I believe that society answers to a higher law. You have the challenging mission to uphold the law, always remembering, as you said so well, we are human beings first.

I have no idea of your religious persuasion. Personally I believe that Jesus will be our judge who said: "I was homeless and you gave me shelter".

God bless you and your fellow officers.

We should all be greatful and stand with this great sheriff R.Jones!I for one have been given a 3 day notice to leave my apartment.I am disabled and was robbed by my boyfriend of the money to support myself. The landlord agreed to give me time until I complained about the heat and the illegal activety in my building, I havent shared this with our sheriff, simply because he has heart and i feel safe with him watching over us all. He is our kinda man for the job. If we don't do anything else in our lifes we must fight to keep him close to us as we can. Mr. Jones if you do read this we thank you for our safety and congradulations on the weight loss.. We all will end up owing something and as long as we stay honest, everyone will be paid back even if it's a service of inconvienience at the moment for a bank or landlord or just anyone. Let's all work together like the Americans we've always claimed to be.

I suppose it is convenient to disregard the laws that you want to whenever they do not suit you. What a great society it is when we can just pick the laws that only suit our moral compass.

What do you tell the landlord who may not be able to pay the bank because the renter can’t pay their rent? TOO BAD? What happens to his life, credit and future? You can’t just destroy a person’s life to save another. That is not morally correct anywhere.

The Rule of Law. When a judge orders a forcible eviction, it is law. Sheriff Jones took an oath to uphold the law. He states that he upholds immigration laws and deports hardworking people. He states that he is not racist but the law is the law. The law is the law. Enforce it or resign.

Will Sheriff Jones not evict an illegal immigrant who is behind in his rent or does the privilge only applies to white hillbillies who look and talk like Sheriff Jones and who pays into his campaign war chest.

Sheriff Jones you should follow Sheriff Si Leis and obey the law.

So if i can't make my mortgage payment because of hard times are the banks still going to forclose? Food for thought. What about the landlord that has worked hard for his money and has to pay for the roof over his head? That's really not fair for responsible individuals to have to pay rather than people that would just go to jail as their routine for their warm bed, three sqare meals, and free television. Let's be fair and make people suffer that deserve to suffer. That is the point of the Justice System, isn't it???

I still support Jones 100% but it's the principal of the matter.

My family and I are being evicted in this freezing, snowing Oregon winter. He so very obviously has been sucking the profit out of this place and putting nothing back into it. It's sad to watch a well built, well cared for property run down. He owns the fourplex next door and it is in the same condition, lacking even gutters for the roof which he will not replace. We were given a three day eviction notice this week, a week before Christmas. I will go to court to fight this. I don't care what it takes, I don't believe that he can toss us and our belongings out in the snow. We've been here almost four years, taking good care of this house and the yard. I've paid the rent as best I can, trying to work it out with Mr. Landlord, but he has been evasive and non-communicative, to say the least, except where it will profit him. I've been told, by those who have worked for him, that he owns two large houses, one brand new in a nearby large city, so he isnt suffering. I wish Mr. Landlord a very merry Christmas, because we certainly will have NO Christmas at all!
