Why It's Rough to Be Working in Ohio

Eversince Democrats took control of Congress and Strickland (Ohio Gov. a Democrat) took over our gas prices have doubled and Ohio keeps losing jobs.

Thanks Democrats for creating a socialist government promoting unions.

I'm in the Logistics industry and general consensus is that this whole DHL scheme is crazy. Well maybe not. Think about this.

DHL has been actively working on getting rights to bring its own airlines into the US. ABX aquistion was only way they could fly planes here in the US. DHL has made it very clear they have a contract out clause with UPS that lets them fly their own aircraft. Now you know most of ABX is a Union company. In fact DHL just finnished negotiation with the Pilots Union. Well lets see you outsource to UPS. It "doesnt workout" Oh guess we have to start up a new company. Oh no union?

This has much less to do with taxes and everything to do with the Union driving high labor costs which are a big portion of freight companies cost if not effectively managed.

Another thing DHL has been raising rates on customers and losing them by the boat load. They are essntially cherry picking high revenue customers while they make this change.

Other thing that I think is strangest. DHL makes this announcement yet they still dont have a contract with UPS? UPS must be loving this one! UPS has leverage to charge what ever they want now.

And if Ohio goes blue, that is going to restore the lost jobs?

Get real. The private economy, which is where all of the real wealth of the nation is created, does not respond to party affiliations. Tell me how any Democrat or Republican can magically restore nearly 30,000 lost jobs.

We kid ourselves when we allow politicians to take credit for "creating jobs." The best thing any government can do to create more jobs and more wealth is to get out of the way. A good example is taxes.

Check it out: High tax states lose jobs. Low tax states gain them. Which party is more likely to lower taxes? If you want to create more jobs, vote for them.

I'm sorry that this is happening to real people. So this post is not to make light of anyone's sobering misfortunes.

But if ever there was a time for the misnomer, "Reagan Democrats" to bite the dust, this is it. People in the private sector who are losing their health care shield by losing their used-to-pay-good jobs are in more hot water than they have yet imagined. And voting for McCain on war stuff and guns and getting his "free market solutions" on health care is only going to raise the temperature in their own personal cooking pots.

They (we) need all the Democrats voting for actual Democrats, and this year. No exceptions for the old "Reagan" reasons. Ohio should be going blue.
