Toyota Refuses to Lay Off Workers

Maybe it's too late for this post, but I don't see why keeping unions out is a bad thing, as long as the workers receive a fair treatment. If Toyota is doing this, then the need for the union is not there. On the other hand, the assumption that unions always work for the benefit of its members is one that you can't take at face value. Unions can (not saying they always are) be quite troublesome for the companies and for their members.

Billy G from Texas, your grammar reflects your backwoods mentality. Toyota is the most above board company out there. I have a loan through Toyota and was given an unbelievable rate due to my good credit so I have nothing but nice things to say about them, besides my car is running flawlessly. You my friend, probably have a Dodge Ram built in Mexico which is a total p.o.s.

Toyota has allot of hidden agendas, however since toyota feels they make some of the best cars(auto) they can't be touch. They do more legally deception practices than any auto manufacturers, they are known to give two high interest loans in family, husband and wife, or 1 person with two cars , which is unlawfully in some states. (like Texas)

Toyota is also known to place refund money on some buyers monthly payment, without consulting the buyers telling new or uneducated buyers, they do not have to pay on their loan for several months, while Toyota collects back interest. (they will send consumers/buyers an invoice which states 0 due this month. While collecting interest.

Just because Toyota has the first Japanese bank, doesn't mean they shouldn't be held accountable. Toyota has too much freedom.

the only reason that toyota treats their workers halfway decent is to keep the union out. in fact since the white house now embraces unions toyota is now being much nicer. at least the line workers are benefitting from my union dues, they do pay it back when they spend their money in the USA. Anyone who has the ability to reason should know, if a non-union company treats you well, it is to keep the unions out. If the threat of unionization dissappears then so does sweet pay and benefits.

Toyota Team Members get a VERY reasonable amount of paid time off days, medical leave, emergency leave, and occurence allowance.

If you burn through your vacation to go see Harry Potter, of course you should be punished when you take their time for the sniffles.

I was an Assistant Manager for the Texas plant and the environment is very aggressive, they look for reasons to make you quit and put a lot of pressure on you even when there is low production volume.

That is a bad habit that came from the Indiana plant. There is not respect for the employees.

I think these benefits are tied into what the transplants could get out of each state to get the work for the state.Thats something we never hear about

Toyota lays off their union Port Associates all the time, actually, Port Newark VDC is laying off at least ten percent of us(doesn't affect me yet....yet) apparently we don't qualify as permanent employees, even though many of my co-workers have worked there for twenty or thirty years.....core values my ass!

As a Toyota Team Member for close to 15 years, let me just add that i truly believe in the Toyota Way. Even in these hard times, I feel strong job security. Toyota demands that people are treated with Dignity and Respect. (IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE A BAD THING?) While other companies are sending jobs overseas, Toyota is bringing jobs to the America. While other companies are showing past profits mishandled, Toyota is using them to show their dedication to its Team Members. Can it last? I am betting my families future on it! Thank You Toyota!

It seems that Toyota has the US media brainwashed. All the negative articles seemed to be buried on back pages or not seen at all. Try reading oversea articles about Toyota. Even the Japanese press talks about how the Japanese unions, yes Unions!, tried to get pay raises for their workers, but instead got far less then they tried to bargain for. Instead Toyota was only concerned about their profits. Americans need to wake up and actually read other articles besides the one-sided media talk that Toyota pays for. I have yet to see any benefits breakdown that everyone brags about Toyota paying its workers. What do they actually get, and why is it so much cheaper than GM? The only reason Toyota pays what they do in the US, is to stay competitive with the American auto worker. Otherwise, you wouldn't see $25.oo an hour jobs. Research your info more before bashing the US.
