I have 6 jobs and work between 1 to 3 or 4 days a week. I have no benefits, health insurance. Everyday I look for more jobs. I am a substitute teacher, work for 3 home health agencies indifferent cities and work for 2 tutoring agencies. It is confusing. I am still not earning a living.

sad described what was normal during my working life, except I never got paid $18.50 an hour with or without lousy benefits.

I never believed that line about jobs Americans would not take. I always took whatever I could get.

Maybe I had the wrong attitude and should have expected more than that it was up to me to get by any way I could.

But I was glad that in this country I could find some way to get by in the best of times and the worst of times.

i know plenty of people working more than one job, and a few working two full time jobs.

here in upstate new york, good jobs are filled by word of mouth and difficult to come by.

i worked as an industrial engineer for fifteen years doing ok for upstate ny but below the national average, since then i have retrained as a registered nurse because manufacturing opportunities have faded away.

i'm a staff rn in public service, we are short staffed, we can't hire anyone, think it's the $18.50 an hour and horrible benefits?

it's not just underemployed, there are those actively searching that take over a year to find a job that are no longer being counted, those forced to work more than one job skewing the results, and those that just have to take something/anything to have a stream of income.

If you're looking for work, you're 100% underemployed.
