Any management style based on anything less than respect and professionalism is the hallmark of a manager needing to be downsized himself.

Classy move on Bob's part. Very respectful and direct way to "manage" your employees. What goes around comes around. Sounds like a dream manager.

In truth, when the boss starts thinking who to lay-off he/she will pay more attention, not less. But the attention will all be negative criticisms as the boss trys to bolster the case for selecting and laying off the employee and to protect the employer from possible litigation from the employee. So if your boss was ignoring you but now criticises every action from your lunch hour to your filing system, then you should watch out.

It's also amazing that the Pfizer manager has no clue that his approach to managing is so dumb-ass that he is willing to attach his name to it in an article.

If you've got a boss who gives you or anyone else the "cold shoulder", you're working for an even worse boss's boss.

Some may do it and get by, but it's bad leadership on wheels. Top management that tolerates by mid-level jerkssuch is weak and stupid or both.
