Why Work When You Can Live Off Your Parents?

It really depends on the country and culture where the guy is living. In the Eastern Europe and in certain parts of Asia, this sort of lifestyle is OK, even required. This does not have to be connected with only economic factors, but with cultural as well. The benefit of this lifestyle is the increased sense of belonging and enhanced relationship with his parents.

This also goes the other way around. When the parents will get old and need some assistance and care, this relationship is going to be beneficial for them as well - there will be their child (and probably his wife) who will be able to take care of them.

His lack of go-getting attitude to life may be influenced by the aforementioned factors - economic advantages of living with the family and the presence of compassion for his parents. Think about it.

Agree totally! Parents are at fault as so is the Federal housing authority which allows section 8 recipents to live free indefinitely while parents and young adults who have children of there own who continually inpregnate their girlfriends to remain without any motivation for them to look for jobs to better themselves. The government puts no stipulations, only allows to take advantage of resources like food stamps, leap and other agencies that hand out cash without checking former work history that qualify as future to be employable.

For you who do not know what crisis this is to have someone living off of US housing authority it is not required for applicant to explore avenues of employment and they do not put any kind of respect to others they are allowed to live and act without consequences.

I know a 50-year-old who works only one day a week at a high-demand health care job - that's a version of what this can look like down the road. But it's not very satisfying at that age, either. Sometimes we just have to push ourselves to take the risk. Down the road, not making the effort will lead to other problems - difficulty finding a life partner who will put up with his doing nothing is one. And all it takes now is a parent losing their job and Mr. Non-motivated will be propelled into getting with it.

It is the parents fault for not teaching, instilling, a work ethic based on self-reliance.

It begins with example and if the parents are not self-reliant and responsible, the children will not be either.

When government policy makes it easy to mooch off of society, many people choose to dive, not fall between the cracks.

Compassionate conservatism must have compassion, but with conservative principles.
