At my store we were told we could demote or be laid off and take a severance package. I opted for the lay off, becasue my hours were being cut to about 20 a week. I can make more than that in unemployment while looking for a FAR better opportunity. Target has since told the unemployment agency that I quit for personal reasons. I am now having to fight my case, so I can recieve my benifits. Target is a corporation that does as little as possible to make themselves look good and fool the public, while covering up how they REALLY treat their employees. Target is known by their employees for mistreatment, horrible pay, and bad benifits (if you even qualify). You HAVE to be a full-time employee to maintain benifits, so by eliminating this full time position they are trying to save money so they can continue giving themselves big fat bonuses. Isn't a little funny how all this happened LITTERALLY the weekend before re-enrollment of the benifits package. How is it that they have gotten away with this mistreatment for so many years. Target employees need to start coming out and talking to the press. It is time that America knows the truth of their business practices. I have a ton of family and friends who are now boycotting Target for these business practices. Did you know that Target employees qualify for welfare? They do most everyone I know is on some form of it from those stores from food stamps to medicaid. It's really sad that these people who have worked hard everyday are having to struggle JUST to get by. The ETL's at my old store were even overheard one day saying that their employees should stop bellyaching about their pay. They belive that they make enough to pay bills and support their families, while they live in their extravegant houses and drive their nice overpriced cars. It is truly appauling what they do to people. Those stores litterally drain you of energy, its kind of like a black hole. Think about it though... if you worked in conditions like that, and had to look at that harsh red color ALL day long... how would you feel?

All I hear from my Target manager is that this company is the greatest ever and that Target is just doing fine. Hopefully there is a "nade' up his arse because that is simply not the truth.

Target is starting to do things very similarly to how Walmart and K-Mart have done things in the past that have got them into trouble.

Target is reconstructing there "Specialist" lead positions at the store level and now will make them everyone into either regular team members or Team Leaders. How do you progress in a company that pretty much "axed" the progressing role in a Specialist team member.

How can Target drive electronics sales with just a Team Leader who has no clue about electronics?

Target also needs to get with the times in a lot of areas. Target just simply doesn't offer a lot of things like Walmart or other bigger stores do in terms of merchandise and programs.

I really would love to see this company succeed but it will not happen until Target rethinks there "Best Company Ever" ideals starting with Customer Loyalty and Customer Satisfaction. <Sorry Guest. LOL!

Right now this company is a JOKE to work for and truly is a "dead-end job" without any room to progress.

Well to all who have had a good experience at target as an employee, lucky you. As for those who have not trust me you are not alone. Now don't get me wrong Target as a company seems to be a good one to work for, unfortunately there are manager with in the company that feel the best way to run there store is through intimidation and ignorance. These particular managers love to belittle anyone they can and they love to threaten you with write ups corrective action and you job. The majority of them lock themselves in their offices talk on their cell phones make plans for the weekend and then come out and tell you, you are not doing your job. There was one that went as far as planning her wedding while at work, funny thing is she claimed to have an open door policy yet during this period you couldn't talk to her when you had an issue oh and lets not forget she was the store HR ETL. In all honesty your ETL's are scared they fear anyone who is educated and gets along with the team members who are your work horses, with out the team members the store would not run so remember treat them with respect. If you stand up for what you believe in or do things a bit differently than the way they would do things you are wrong, you are then not doing your job. Who knew that there was only one way of doing a job, who knew that if you gain the respect of your team and peers you became a threat to the company. Didn't know that busting your ass running around the entire store ensuring things were under control and employees were being productive made you a bottom performer. Found out the the best way to be a top performer in Chicago Target Location is to never complete your tasks, treat you team members like animals by talking down to them as if they do not have the ability to understand simple directions. Oh and most importantly, very very important to be a successful Team member or Team Lead now pay attention KISS ASS, SURGICALLY ATTACH YOUR LIPS TO THEIR ASSES! You will then be fine. These ETLs' at the Chicago Target locations are ETLs' with no people skills, it is sad that these ETLs' have the ability to treat people they way they do, it is sad that they are allowed to degrade you to the point that they make you feel less of a person and no one will do anything about it, those who have the power to do so will never do such a thing they have a code you scratch my back I'll scratch yours no matter the situation. Those of you who do speak up and stand up for yourself in a respectful way, sorry to say they will make you job a living hell. Stay strong and do all you can to never show them that they finally got to you cause ETLs' are like dogs that smell fear they attack relentlessly because they know they can get away with it to bad Target CEOs' and investors do not give a damn about you or the team members always remember to them there is on one thing that matters the bottom line make them MONEY!

I overheard an STL (Store Manager) conference call that called for a reduction in the Team Leader head count. This conference call took place May 2009. In this call they called for the number of Team Leaders to drop from 15 to 12. They also discussed the means of reducing head counts. This seems to be a shady decision by a company that many team members have worked so hard to support.

Target is a great place to work...Its just some of those etl's that are wanna b's that hound you all the time

I have also worked for Target as a district technician and I can say for certain I would never go back or recommend Target as a good place to work. Facilities Maintenance is treated like crap by the regional, group, district, and store management. There is no partnership between the "store side" and facilities maintenance. About half of the store managers were very nice however from the group directors and district managers they are nothing less then a bunch of know it all jack asses. What Target really needs to do is move out poor performers in store management and change their team culture, its just not working.

I will say that more nice people that work for Target then are poor managers. And I have worked with a great team in facilities maintenance, however Target management really needs to clean house, maybe it time to have one store manager for 2 stores. I heard they bonus half of the yearly salary if they make there yearly sales to expense numbers. Target needs to trim the "FAT". Just think how much money Target could save their investors and how “competitive" they could be, mmmmmm.

I too work for target and agree that this company has treated me the best of any that I have worked for. My managers are great, District and Corporate associates have always been good to us, and above all we (Target) respect our GUESTS (customers) and strive to please them everyday. I am sorry that anyone had a bad experience at a Target store, but sales are going down simply because people are unsure of the economy and do not have the extra to spend like they did in previous years. Locally, my store has actually seen an increase in sales since October of last year and sales are still going up.
