Congress to Consider Unemployment Extension Next Week

On October 25 '10 I received a letter from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development stating the number of unemployment weeks was going down from 93 to 86 weeks. Which meant I had 49 weeks left, this past Sunday (Nov.28 '10) when filing my weekly claim I was notified all extension have been canceled and I have only 7 weeks left. What happened in a months time that I lost 38 weeks of unemployment benefits. How can they just up and change it that dramatically so quick? We had like 6 tiers of extension, which many people have used, I am only on the first tier. I don't know what I'm going to do, the jobs just aren't out there and I am a single person who lives alone...in 7 weeks my income will be zero!

Yes, I've been on unemployment for a year and a half. Within that time i've also attended school to become a Medical Assistant and also get my CNA certificate. When my job laid me off while i was out on materity leave two weeks before it was time for me to return back it broke my heart to know that i have newborn baby with no income. Yet in still i'm single mother with no help with two children who i'm responsible for. I've been applying for jobs the whole time and it's very stressful when people turn you away. So to all i understand what your going and my prayers are with you and really hope that that Congress come a decision for the American citizen. Before they have more to worry about then unemployed workers.

I do not understand how some people are drawing unemployment for 91 weeks and then someone new can only get 26 weeks. That is not fair at all, people are still losing there job in the small towns of maryland and no new jobs available, but no one cares who losing there homes or anything else.

The unemployed has become the soldiers of a war. We are dropping off in a battle by losing everything we have until we can find a job. We only ask for help to keep our grounds and not be destroyed. How can man kind destroy who we are and what we stand for.

It is very upsetting to find out that your Unemployment has run out and you can't find out why. I have tried to file an extension but was unable to do so. Some of my coworkers worked less time than I, yet I have been told they will have benefits for 15 months. I received benefits for only eight months. On another subject I really hate those folks in local and state political office voting themselves raises. I am a very hard working, detailed oriented person and I want to work and get a decent salary. Is that too much to ask?

We the people of the united states is what we used to be proud of. Today all of those who are in congress eat well, sleep well they look good, an make decient incomes. Remember this. you may think your doing the right thing, but its the people that got you in your position in your office. Now its time to stand like a true american an give back to the ones that stood by you.

It is time for Politics to play out in the fullest. Everyone do not buy products made in the states that voted no for the unemployment extension. The list is huge. I was surprised I buy a lot of these products. From Maine to Texas. From Hertz car, Pappa John Pizza, JC Penny and much more. There are hundreds of company's that we could have an impact on. From can goods to cars. Then when all these people are out of work, maybe then these Senators will get it. Big Business has not saved us once so why would you expect them to do it now. Where are the jobs?

If everyone keeps playing into their game we the American will never be able to make any changes. We are already to the point we have nothing to lose and that's when we are most effective.

Don't vacation there, you or friends family etc, familiarize your self with all the products and stick to it. It is the only way.

I appreciate this venue, though, I have made a concerted effort myself to go to each of my state's representatives for the senate, and congress. If you don't know how or where to start, google state code, along with the words state senator, or state congresman.. locate them, and once on their site, select contact.. Please say something worth reading, other than just blurting the words.. Please extend benefits.. A well worded note or letter goes much further.. Below is an example.. Feel free to copy and paste it for yourself.

I am writing this letter to please urge you to enact additional emergency funding for those that have completed their forth round of federally funded unemployment extension, FED-ED. During the first week of April 5, I received my last unemployment check, and at the end of the month, if something is not done ASAP, I will not have money to pay rent, or food. I am feverishly looking for work every day, though, with the economy and California's unemployment rate being so high, it has been extremely competitive, and impossible to secure work. Many people I talk with think too much money is being allocated for the wrong things, and not enough for the states hit hardest for the unemployed. THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM THAT NEEDS QUICK AND IMMEDIATE ATTENTION!! Based on this circumstance, it is crucial that you support passing an additional extensions quickly. Stop the inhouse fighting, and help the citizens of the United States. It is the people of this country that need help now! Stop funding wars, or use some of the stimulus money to pay for a long term unemployment rescue, instead of pouring it into things that aren't relevant now!

Please do all you can based on this circumstance, and enact additional Tiers for the long-term unemployed. The people suffering from this drought of joblessness are where support is needed. This is URGENT!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!!

Respectfully,

(your first and last name)
