It's Bill Gates again! The Microsoft legend may have lost $18 billion from last year's list, but he's still worth a hefty $40 billion. Investors Warren Buffet and Carlos Slim landed in the second and third spots even after losing a whopping $25 billion each (they're still worth $37 billion and $35 billion respectively.
In all, though, it was a rough year for the billionaire club. Forbes says last year the world had 1,125 billionaires. Now there are just 793 after the financial crisis destroyed some $1.4 trillion in wealth (notable names who fell off the list include AIG head Maurice Greenberg who lost a big chunk of his fortune as the insurer staggered into a government bailout, and alleged fraudster Allen Stanford.)
The entire list from Forbes is here.
