If instead of spending the last 17 years and $2 trillion waging war in the Middle East, you had invested that heavily in researching, developing and building alternatives to fossil fuels we would all be wealthier today.
Remember it only costs $15 a barrel to get it out of the ground most of the the rest of your $130+ goes straight into the pockets of the Saudi royal family.

Start building the power lines and power plants (Coal, Wind, Solar, and Nuclear) to move the electricity we will use in the future. We will have electric energy powering cars, heating home, and producing other fuels. If we do not build the lines, we will not be able to transition to the next economy.

The solution to high oil prices is to place a tariff on all imported oil into the U.S. This tariff income should be used to develop our own resources including domestic oil and gas as well as redouble our efforts in developing renewable energy resources and electric vehicles. This would of course cut domestic use of oil and in the short run hurt our economy, but this would only be short lived until American ingenuity solved these problems. It would be better to help our own domestic development of energy that to make foreign oil exporters richer.
I believe every American is ready to sacrifice to obtain energy independence and seek a long term solution rather than die slowly at the hands of the Middle Eastern Oil Kings and Hugo Chavez. Lets do something proactive about this problem, before it is too late.

Most of the Middle East is sand and oil. If OPEC wants to paly hard ball it is my opinion that we do the same. I believe we and the rest of the world should colaborate as OPEC does and put an embargo or significantly increase the price of food commodities on all food products. Let them eat and drink their oil. I would be glad to significantly reduce my consumption for several weeks to make our point. Cooperate in a global economy or suffer the consequences.

Look in the mirror and see who is to blame. We keep electing selfserving politicians of both parties more interested in thier own politcal carreers and financial favors for thier backers. Both political parties has used the same lies and fear mongering since Nixon. No new nuclear power plants, no new refineries, no shale oil production. What we get is subsidies for failed technology controled by political beneficiaries. The middle class has been sold out by both Republicans and Democrats; nobody cares.

With the "invonvient Lie" written with half truths ans stolen hollywood film clips Al has caused weak mined folks to believe humans that contribute 2% of CO2 to the atmosphere are changing the climate. News flash, New York has been under ice hundreds of times in the past and regardless of us little humans it will happen again, so much for Global warming? We cannot conserve our way out of this with China< India and the rest of the world burning anything they can for the good of their folks.

whs of TX,
The Republicans have been in control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency for most of the last 28 years. Blaming the Democrats alone for not producing more energy is ridiculous. On the other hand, when have you heard the Republicans advocate conserving it? W. got elected on the mistaken premise that people could keep driving their SUV's. The Republicans argued that Al Gore would take them away. In fact, W. has done that.
