That would be great a prius to be a power backup for a House especially since IRENE hit NY.Please Toyota send owners ifo how to use the Prius as a generator.
The technology is called Uninterruptible Power Supply. I have a toyota camry (not a prius) but I also find this technology really interesting. I found these articles when I was looking for a good current events topic on alternative energy. Best of luck to you.

"Commie Liberal", "towel heads", "MR. Bush" Wow. If the green revolution can turn even a neanderthal Republican like Maestro of New York than maybe, just maybe this earth and our species has a chance afterall.

I'm no commi liberal, but I would like to see the battery that runs in the Prius, in all cars...... If possible. I'm a Republican at heart, but see the Prius as our best line of defence agains the towel head "friends" we are in bed with.
Mr. Bush, make it an executive order. Force all new cars to run on the Prius Battery.

current price for lithium battery for phev is $10,000. WOW. Not currently economical even with $4 gas. Toyota isn't going to risk Prius repputation with either a $10G battery or an untested battery.

I think thats its good that people have finally decided to take action on this problem...Toyota is very smart I think that they will be rich in the near future-richer than they already are that is.

GM has announced that an "extended range electric vehicle" - the Chevy Volt - will be available in 2010. It uses a lithium ion battery back and can run 40 miles on battery power alone. After that, a 1.0 litre gasoline turbo engine kicks on to recharge the battery and power the car. It can run 120 mph and has a range of 640 total miles per tank (12 gallons) which means it gets close to 100 miles per gallon, including the 40 from battery alone. Not bad. It is pricy, though, and will cost around $45,000. It's no golf cart...seats 4 or 5 and looks pretty good.

If hackers can do PHEV's now why cant's Toyota? Ford is testing a PHEV in California.
