Remember for every American car you buy, you won't be able to afford it due to increased maintenance.

If America built an non-muscle car that was fine and didn't have the interior of a plastic toybox, they'd sell cars. The cars they sell are subpar and nobody should reward a company for releasing an inferior product.

Remember for every japanese car you buy, your sending more and more money to the overseas market, not actually helping the american worker.

Why dont you just buy an american truck or car and stop supporting the japanese

I have a 07 Tundra and not only is it my personal vehicle, but it also doubles as my work truck. I used to have a Dodge Ram and get 12-13 MPG and even less when I had the ladder racks loaded. My Tundra is getting 15-16 MPG right now in the middle of the season. I honestly feel that if people will take their foot out of the pedal some and make certain mods, their bigger vehicles will perform better at the pump. I spoke to a guy who has the exact same set up as I do, the only difference is I have my contractor rack and he had a tonneau cover. He told me that he was getting 19 MPG out of his Tundra with a 5.7L V8! Amazing! I just think about how much more $4.00 per gallon gas my Ram would use than my Tundra. I must disagree with the article: the Tundra was far from a misstep.

The Democratic leadership has made two attempts to raise gasoline prices in the last two weeks. Except for the Republican filabusters those would be on their way to Pelosi's house. Why is this not a major news story? In 2000 when Gore was advocating raising fuel costs to spur conservation, I was with him. This is utterly foolish at this time, because the market has finally taken hold, and forced the issue. Do the Democrats not realise that the jolt from prices is already taking effect? People are hurting, and the economy is in danger until we adjust to this new reality. The Democrats are wed to the socialist dream of turning the vast majority of Americans into subsistence peasants while the elite ( the Kennedy's, Soros's, etc.) ride around in Lear jets. The socialist dream (nightmare) had a full test in the old Soviet Union. The masses were in abject poverty, while the small elite lived like kings. Is that what we want in America? Most of academia and the media see themselves in that small elite after the socialist revolution that Obama seeks. I think many of them will be in for a shock. While a few may get positions in the ministry of "information," most will be on the outside looking in.

When I went behind the iron curtain ( East Berlin), I looked for something good in the system. The only thing I could see was that the widespread poverty kept development down. I thought this might slow down the depletion of nonrenewable resources and polution. After the fall of the gloried "scientific socialism," we found rampant waste and environmental catastrophe. It seems that the lack of free speech, necessary to maintain the feudal socialist system, also prevented information from being available to expose problems. A free society can not exist where a small elite expoit the vast majority. In a free society we have free speech (political correctness notwithstanding). What socialist fail to understand is that even unpopular ideas, that are thought to be malicious or false, sometimes turn out to be true.... Today's fool can become tomorrow's prophet.

I have a 2001 Toyota Tundra acess cab, my wife has a 2006 Tundra limited 4 door. Both trucks are black and they both have the 4.8 v8 I don't think I will get rid of either one even with the price of gas. they are almost paid off. Then my payment can go for gas, Sure gas is $ 4.00 a gallon, But I am to that point in life now I think I am looking for our safety. I can see whats on the road ahead of us.

I will keep my 2004 Toyota Tundra, because all of the other trucks I used to drive(1998 Ford F-100,2003 Dodge Ram,& 2003 Denali)didn't have the durability & power I was always looking for.I modified a few things in the engine.I can fill up the gas tank & drive from Powder Springs,Georgia to Brunswick,Georgia & back up to Atlanta on 1 tank of gas....seriously.The only thing that I am having problems with is the monthly payments due to the loss of my job.Too many jobs are being terminated due to the president's hard head.Sure,he won't have to worry about a monthly payment or gas the rest of his life, none of them will!

Does anybody see a relationship between the left-wingers in Congress who've prevented us from drilling for oil in Alaska & building more nuclear power plants and the current outrageously high cost of oil & gas ???!!!

wintom of MA 10:53PM June 14, 2008

I posted about the Volt and misstated the gas mileage. It goes 640 miles (including 40 from battery power alone) per 12 gallon tank so it's actually supposed to get a little over 50 miles per gallon, not 100 as I wrote earlier.

Why does everyone act like hybrids are not affordable?

If one could afford a Hummer, or some other expensive SUV, then why can they not afford a hybrid?
