My wife and I recently upgraded from a Dell XP system to a new Dell Windows 7 Home Premium system. We are totally Happy with our new system. Totally! We were considering an Apple IMAC with the Snow Leopard OS, and that would have been OK. We got this Windows 7 system for half the price. I know some people who are also happy with their Vista systems, and I know others who curse their Vista System every day. Sounds like a hit or miss situation with Vista. We're thrilled with 7. It's everything we need, and want in an OS. Highly recommend it. Way faster than our old XP system and extremely stable. A most worthwhile investment!
Grateful to be a Windows 7 user.

Windows 7 is touted as being superior to Windows Vista. I have a Dell computer running Vista. I've had it for seventeen months now and it has *yet* to lock-up or show the Blue Screen of Death. Thus Vista is *far* superior to XP. I suspect much of the propaganda about the "superiority" of Windows 7 over Vista is faked. It's probably produced by people who want to sell Windows 7.
Try Windows Vista. It's the best version of Windows yet!!

I was running Win2000 for the longest time. Things finally got to the point I had to make a switch. Vista was about to be eleased but I went with XP. After I had a problem trying to purchase a copy of XP, I started looking into iMAK in the Apple Laptop. Then I bought a referbished DELL desktop, and it came with a fresh copy of XP Pro. Then I found I could buy a fresh copy of XP Pro, and I did. Now I have XP Pro to run here. I have since purchased a book on Fedora(11) and now I have a complete release of Red Hat Enterprize Software. It's a complete release with compilers, server and Office software and anything else I may need. I started my learning curve with Unix, and it's starting to look like a prefered operating system. (Very close to Apple Laptop Software systems). Now if things within Red Hat would only open up a bit, I think I would be one of thier better customers.
By the way, I was introduced to Apple Laptops when a friend asked me to look into a problem he had. The problem was quickly resolved, and I was impressed with how things were laid out and accessable. I really wasn't dard to learn.

Perhaps this new interface is foreign to all of you XP fans out there, and trying out newer software seems like a daunting task when your XP software seems to work well enough, but upgrading your system to a 64 bit architecture makes it virtually immune to viruses spyware and trojan/rootkits. Not that they can't be downloaded, but malware that is designed for 32 bit operating systems is not compatible with 64 bit operating systems.
I'm running windows server 2008 standard(which SHOULD have been the true successor to XP), and other than being able to start and stop services and virtualize operating systems, it seems to run very similarly to Windows 7. I have NO security software and windows defender is off, and I have had no malware related problems to date.
Secondly, there is newer generation software that is comparable to any software not compatible with Vista/windows 7-developed by people who actually chose to make the update and make the best of it.
My final thought is that you should all calm down. If you're forced to run Windows 7 it won't be the end of your system. It's the same interface, I assure you. You won't be so bedazzled that the inferiority of the apple computer will seem a safe haven in an xp free storm.
All of you that pride your computers for performance, power and ability will simply update your operating system, not downgrade to apple, I mean come on.

I have a Toshiba laptop with Vista and an iMac. My HP Printers all work well with Vista, but RARELY work with my iMac. Most times they aren't recognized. When they are recognized, the Mac keeps giving messages that the printer is offline, when it is indeed online. In the very rare case that I AM able to print from my Mac, only one page will print correctly; the rest of the pages just print out an error message. I have not had any problems at all connecting or printing with Vista on these same printers. The drivers are updated on the Mac too. Before I got the updated drivers, the printers were not detected at all. Anyway, I believed that 'Macs just work' until I got one. Who would have thought that the only problems I have are on Mac OS X and not on Vista?

I had XP in my old dell It came with ME witch was a mess from day 1 I up graded to XP 6 years ago and it made a pretty good system after putting in all the xp service packs My new laptop has vista its so so but now all my older software sutch as my old adobie photoshop wont run on it niether will my flatbed scanner this past week I built a new desktop from scratch with a hot motherboard and quadcore ect and loaded it with 7 so far only the scanner wont run on it theres a patch online we found to run xp to revive some of the older software I like but id rather just had XP in it but microsoft will stop supporting XP in 3 or 4 years so they have got us by the gonads and shot them selves in the foot at the same time I guess iLL go to a mac the next time .

I just bought a new computer after eight years it came with Vista; and an upgrade to Windows 7 I was grateful for that. The Vista was hard to find what I wanted.and the pop up windows were annoying. The Windows 7 is very much like the XP I'd had.

So it says happy Vista users don't need to upgrade. What about unhappy vista users?
I went over the Vista about a year ago, and about six months in, it stopped talking to my DSL modem. XP worked with it just fine, but not Vista. For two months I went round and round with MS tech support trying to figure out what was going wrong, before I finally gave up and went back to XP.
If I go to 7 should I expect to be unceremoniously dumped off of the net again?

your virus problems are not the result of any flaw in Windows 7 security
I have been running Windows 7 for months now with no problems. You simply didn't take adequate precautions securing your system.
It is also possible that your previous antivirus is not compatible with Windows 7 which makes it's installation in the first place worthless. If this is the case, the operating system would have made it abundantly clear.
imho, Microsoft finally made something better than the worthless Vista, and which holds its own with XP and which has better security than XP

One of the funniest things ever written !
I changed my home computer to apple and I feel like driving a Ferrari instead of and old Yugo, this was 4 years ago and for no reason I plan to buy ever again anything Microsoft.
The only reason I still have to deal with Microsoft is 'cos my job at the office, and I am reading this article out of despair with Vista. I need to get out of that awful version and yes I did consider moving back to XP but again ... office policies ...
