I sent semi nude pictures to a girlfriend YEARS ago. 2003-2? Guess I was 'ahead of the curve' huh? Did anything bad happen to me? Nope.
What I think is really disturbing is our paranoia over preserving 'innocence' in this day and age. Us 'kids' were telling dirty jokes when we were 9, cursing when we were 11, and being sent off to fight and die in a foreign land when we are 18. God forbid we might develop a sense of sexuality. Yet you 'mature adults' would go so far as arresting us, and putting us in prison as ~Sex offenders~!! simply for doing what is natural, with others of our own age? Talk about hypocritical. Your generation destroyed this country, thrown our future to the winds and treat us like another consumable resource along with your latte's and neck ties.
Maybe your kids would be more open with you if they didn't feel like telling you ANYTHING would result in you locking them in a cage. Instead you'd rather be back handed and spy on them. So much for a honest and open relationship. I'm not surprised, coming from the generation that condoned warrant-less wire tapping and extraordinary rendition.
Remember, we are like a Chinese finger trap. The harder you pull on us, the harder we are going to pull back.

Web Safety Products to protect your children and give parents 'Peace of Mind' are not only a trendous aid to parents, they are also a necessity. Any product that could possibly save lives is a necessity and a product high in demand.
Anyone who questions this should see the Public Safety Announcement Video made in the UK. that I have on my website and on my blog. A little bloody but you will never text while driving again!! The Web Safety software can actually shut down the texting feature while driving due to its built in GPS feature. It also alerts a parent if their teen is going over the speed limit.

Julie -
You think it is "disgusting" that someone started a company to try and protect children from bad guys after their child fell victim to an online child predator? You are a confused individual Julie.
I say good for them, and I wish them luck. I would personally love this product, and yes... I trust my child. The downside risk of being wrong is simply too great.
Julie - The good news is that there is an 80% chance your kids will be fine according to Sharon. The bad news is that there is a 20% chance you will regret your naivete about kids and technology.
Best wishes, and good luck,
Karin

My heart goes out to Julie without my intending to offend, she is grossly naive. Trusting your child to make the right decision does not support the statistics of 1 in 5 teens and tweens under the age of 18 have sent sexually explicit pictures of themselves. The peer pressure is epidemic on top of law enforcement not having the manpower to catch predators that the internet has unleashed. They are finding those closet predators that would not have normally acted on their feelings are now actively engaged through the internet because they can remain anonymous. They will take as much time as they need in order to lure our children. I have real cases from the District Attorney's office reporting within 2 minutes and 45 seconds a predator learned where a child lived and that they were home alone. If children could be self managed, they would not need parents. We need to work together to protect or children from predators and themselves. Because of a personal experience with my child (1 of 3), I formed both a non-profit to educate kids in schools and a profit to provide parental controls specifically with cell phones. I'm launching the cell phone product in 2010 which will capture text messages but also provide GPS which details the speed the child was traveling whether a passenger or driver in a car.

This program is disgusting. What happened to your children's privacy? Parents should not be monitering every conversation and action their child makes, they should be comfortable enough in their parenting to trust their children to make the right decisions. Kid safe is for paranoid and intrusive parents that don't treat their children like people.

Muser is right, no corporation is going to stop it, state laws are not going to stop it, so how can parents help contorl it? Check out www.MyWebSafety.com/Cindy They are a publicly traded company and out there marketing the solution thru Moms across the U.S. Watch for the national kick off in February of 2010 in Phoenix, AZ featuring Bella Shaw - CNN anchor and Terry Lord - Chief Prosecuter, US Department of Justice Criminal, Child Exploitation and Obscentity Division

Not much. Corporations are making LOTS of money off of very bit and byte your kids send and receive on various technologies and sites. You've got phone makers, phone companies, ISPs, networking sites, and legions of others less obvious. The whole kid generation is fully addicted now and the parents are happily paying the tolls (to the corporations) for the addiction.
You will hear "tsk, tsk" lip service to the moon. And you will see nothing done to reverse the problems. OF COURSE, the "right" answer is to target the corporations which transmit the errant self-advertising with nudity by children and the bullying assaults from whatever sources. And, OF COURSE, you cannot get it done any more than you can get liquor sales out of gas stations.
Sorry, folks. You "THINK" you live in a democracy where the people vote and the corporations don't. But what you "THINK" is an illusion.
Find out how America’s best companies are succeeding by tapping big data, mobile solutions, social media, and crowdsourcing to adapt and compete in an increasingly connected world.
