What Airport Security Costs You

Certainly seems to be worth it to me. The costs of an incident could easily surpass what we spend on airline security.

One way it could be cost effective is requiring TSA to report other illegal items that are on the person and/or baggage.

It was shocking to find out that a federal judge in June had thrown out seizure of three fake passports from a traveler, saying that TSA screeners violated his Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure.

Illegal passports are used to break the law, they are against the law. If we want respect for our laws we need to enforce them. The individual with the passports chose to get on a plane (not forced to), and thus chose to comply with the search. There was no loss of fourth amendment rights they were not willing to give up.

Boo on that judge.

I honestly don't believe that security delays are what cause so many people to drive instead of fly. Personally I believe that what caused people to drive instead is the fact that 3 planes got hijacked and crashed, killing many people and causing terror. I didn't want to get on a plane after 9/11 either, not because of security delays, but because several planes at once were used as weapons inside the US. I would have no problem going through a full body scanner and waiting in line. The full body scanner seems much more efficient as detecting possible threats to me, and I never thought that metal detectors were enough.
