How can I get more information on how to start this Business?

What this article doesn't mention is that 80% of individuals who do the state applications themselves are denied. It is a very difficult process and to go from a non agency to a medicare/medicaid certified agency takes between 11-13 months. I am a National Licensure Manager and 1/2 my clients don't have a company to start and the other half tried to do it themselves and failed. The ones I feel the most for are the people who paid a franchise fee for the use of a logo & name and nothing else and the right to pay royalties on what they earn. To become a non medical can range from $100-$8,000. state application fee and a franchise fee is between 20k-45k to find out that you still have to do the licensing on your own. We do the licensing for the state for 3k. We do the federal licensing and accreditation for "deemed status" for 10k and we train you and your staff to actually run your company effectively and always maintain compliance. Why anyone would do this on their own is beyond me.

I would like to start my own home health business,I truely love working with the elderly. To me they are very special and have lived through some very hard times,so my wife and I would love to give back by making sure that their last days on this earth are secure.

As the daughter of two elderly parents, I know what is necessary to care for an elderly person. I also realize that some older persons have noone to come to their homes just to give them that extra assistance that they need or run that errand that they just can't get out to do. It's about caring enough to be there when noone else can!

i wish i could agree with this post. i am part owner of an existing home health care business in Illinois and it's getting more and more difficult to be profitable. CMS has made so many regulatory changes affecting reimbursement negatively and insurance companies pay less than what you pay your staff. Getting clients (marketing) is also extremely difficult as most hospitals and now have their own home health business and only refer to their own agencies, even though this practice is not legal. Doctor's offices and nursing homes are also almost impossible to penetrate. anyone who would like to pursue this business should have a few strong referral sources in order to be profitable at all.
