Thanks for sharing this article! My sister just started an in-home care business and she is doing great. I thought she was crazy, but it's surprising how many elderly people want to have that service. I would definitely recommend getting into this business if you are thinking about it. http://www.elitehomecaresc.com

I am considering 21st Century and to see Sal Laterra's comment about them helping him start his business... and then to find out he works for 21st century really doesn't help their credibility in my eyes. here is a link to the page showing he is employed with their company http://homecareuniversity.net/contact-us.html

For those in the HHC industry, what would you consider the most important part of your business? Where do you focus the most energy or in other words what do you stress about on a daily level?

What this article doesn't mention is that 80% of individuals who do the state applications themselves are denied. It is a very difficult process and to go from a non agency to a medicare/medicaid certified agency takes between 11-13 months. I am a National Licensure Manager and 1/2 my clients don't have a company to start and the other half tried to do it themselves and failed. The ones I feel the most for are the people who paid a franchise fee for the use of a logo & name and nothing else and the right to pay royalties on what they earn. To become a non medical can range from $100-$8,000. state application fee and a franchise fee is between 20k-45k to find out that you still have to do the licensing on your own. We do the licensing for the state for 3k. We do the federal licensing and accreditation for "deemed status" for 10k and we train you and your staff to actually run your company effectively and always maintain compliance. Why anyone would do this on their own is beyond me.
