Best Small Business to Start: Online Art Dealer

It's exciting for one to dream of art bussiness -- to draw, paint or curve a piece of art and get an instant buyer for the object. But then, dream is after all dream. Here in India, artists are commonly not taken seriously. Of course there are few exceptions but exceptions are seldom examples. Unlike on the other side of the globe, popular preoccupations here are anything but Art. Having been engaged, rather submerged in Art for the last three decades plus, there is nothing much to look forward except to remain in the submerged state of mind.

This article is very interesting to me. I also feel that this is a very smart way to offer art to consumers. Technology in photography is now so sophisticated, that it eliminates the need for the bricks and mortar part of the business equation.

I took this one step further, by combining the art market with a specific niche - the growing trend in memorialization of loved ones lost. My website, www.shineonbrightly.com, is an online gallery for memorial art. We feature the works of more than 20 artists, including cremation urns, memorial jewelry, handmade books, memorial glass, sculpture, textile art, memorial poetry, and more. All of the pieces are handmade by artists in the US.

I'm going to try my hand at being an online art dealer. I plan to use the shops on www.myartspace.com. I tried to run a small brick & mortar gallery for three years and the cost was outstanding. I still have the connections I had so hopefully that will help when I bring my artists online.

The great thing about selling art online is that it introduces you to a global market at the get-go. There are some draw backs, but there are also draw backs from running a physical space.
