The decision to go into business for themselves is a complex decision, which is probably much thought and consideration. Now the decision is to do only what the business opportunity for you. The information in this article is still relevant, even a few years after it was written. One entrepreneurial trend that crosses the categories mentioned here is affiliate marketing. While there's vibrant competition in affiliate marketing, the right opportunity and coaching, combined with persistence, can make for a nice supplementary income if not full-time employment. Very useful start-up information and tools for affiliate marketing available here:

I take issue with the financial advisor; if she or he hasn't become wealthy because of their "important" knowledge and if s/he is working for paychecks as millions of others are, then that level of knowledge is questionable. If they have become wealthy, they're not going to be your financial advisor then. They have too many other things to do & don't need your money.

I must say I totally disagree with your businesses to start suggestions above.

They mostly appeear to businesses where you trade your [limited] time for money.

The best businesses IMO are

1. Global (no fixed retail outlet),

2. Operate in a Large Established Industry,

3. High Margin,

4. Easily Scale up (see limited time for money),

5. Have a proprietary element,

6. Do not involve holding inventory

7. Can be operated over an internet connection (i.e. you can be anywhere in the world to run them (again no fixed retail outlet).

8. Have the opportunity for licensing/royalties
