The message is clearly spreading. At a recent visit to Georgia Brown's, an upscale southern-style restaurant in Washington, D.C., Koch was stopped by a bartender on his way out. "Thank you for what you've done for American beer," he said, explaining that before Sam Adams, he had few quality domestic beers to recommend to customers.

To Koch, compliments don't come any better.

I have to agree with the article. I drink beer for quality and almost never quanity. The better a beer tastes the more likely I am to purchase it again. I love the holiday brews from Saranc and Sierra Nevada but there are many others as well. Thanks to the folks who keep making the better beers and to those of us who but them.

This article provides a great example of how wrong-headed marketing research can be. The article states: "Nielsen research on craft-beer drinkers. "They're looking for brands with a good image, a lot of cachet, and a message that identifies who they are,""

Seriously? Have they ever sat down with dedicated craft beer drinkers? I've yet to meet someone that considers "cachet" in their beer.

People drink beers because they prefer beer that actually tastes like something aside from water! It's the same reason someone would prefer a NY strip steak to Spam.
