i have got to agree with the fact that florida sucks. i also came from ca,and fell in love with the beaches but after that there is nothing. the school systems here are horrible. the people here are very unwelcoming and the overall vibe is not good.peoples attitude here is very grouchy and uptight.people talk about new yorkers attitude and let me tell you i had a great time living in new york for 2 years. so basically think twice if your considering to move to florida its miserable LIVING HERE.

I've been here eighteen years and If I could turn back the time I would have never left New York. The weather is great but I can not say the same about the people. There are to many people out of town that do play these conning game. You work harder and get less pay. I worked in NYC from 9-5 in Florida is 8-5 the State gets one hour from you day and five hours a week you do the math. Yes I live in Fort Lauderdale and I also agree with Gloria.

I am saddened by the plight of your friends and their unfortunate experiences. Christopher and Gloria both are talking about South Florida, but I would emplore you to look again. Florida is a big state and consists of more than Miami. I live in the Northern Panhandle (it would take me 12 hours to drive to Miami) and I can tell you that the climate here is not the same as South Florida just like you can't judge all of California based on the Hollywood Boulevard.

I agree with you on that one Gloria! My friend went down there too and she thought the best of her life will be in Miami Florida when a native there, young hispanic male convinced her to move there from California!! Turned out that he was doing the same to other females locally and out of state. When she went there with all her belongings and kids, his charm after a year vanished and he cheated on her behind her back and she couldn't leave because now she is Brainwashed... So sad so sad. The economy is bad there for the locals that mentally has morphed individuals to evil, manipulative, conning, self centered individuals in the state of Florida. I'm not saying all people in Florida is bad, just saying the society and loose morals down there are reflecting majority of the population. Dont get me wrong, i love the weather as a tourist but i wouldn't move there because of the high crimes and conning people that exist there. 5 friends of mine moved down there for striking gold in some way, either in love, financial, or just a new start, ended up replying to me that they would take it back if they could and am still living there trying to make plans on how to move out. So I agree with you Gloria, BEWARE OF FLORIDA & FLORIDANS!!!

My friend let New York with all of her savings thinking that best thing to do was to invest in Miami real estate and she did 3 years later after she bought a house paid in full and got a second one paying half at front now she is loosing her second one because in two years she hasn't been able to get a job to pay the morgatge and she's been using her credit cards to the max just to survive! scary because it is a big chance of loosing everything because how to survive without a job and cost of life at the sky? sad I am very sad for my friend!

Colorado's system really didn't help my start of business ventures. Being a sole Prop. and trying to do everything by it's legal means. It ended up I had to pay my debts, whilie I watched big corporations walk away from agreements their mgt. signed with my business. This including the lawyers and their funny ways.

I agree with both of the Florida comments. The wages are very low but everything else is expensive...housing, groceries, gas. I don't understand why or how people can think the cost of living in Florida is low. I moved from NY and believe me, NY is way more affordable to live because of better salaries. I have also seen many businesses start up and close in less than 1 year.
Higher Wages Needed for Survivalof FL8:28AM September 15, 2010
I am originally from Florida but have not lived here since I was in high school in 1999. Since moving back due to a recent divorce the only thing I have noticed is LOW LOW wages and HIGH HIGH cost of living. Even my damn groceries seem more expensive here than in Atlanta, GA where we used to live.
How can people live here??? I don't see how my family does it. If you go to a place like Georgia you can make good money and live like kings and queens. The cost of living does not exceed the rate of pay most employers shell out. There is a pretty good balance there but in Florida, no balance whatsoever.
I'm going to have to go work at Burger King in order to find a job. This state is a joke and it is embarrassing to say that I am a native. I am applying for jobs in Atlanta and if I get a job, I'll be on the first red wagon outta here.
