I got one of those cheapy cellphone for my grandmother last year at Kmart. I was mostly an impulse purchase, I never thought I could convince her to use one, but as Julio says, when she saw the numbers were so big and that was a 'good old flip' phone she decided to give it a try. The good part is the prepaid and that tracfone ussually has pretty good promos and deals on minutes.

Yes! I got that phone for my grandad because he is so stuborn he woudn't get a cellphone, saying he can't even see the numbers on the screen, but when he saw that samsung and the huge numbers he finally caved. The plan is really great for a senior because it's prepaid and starts at only $7 amonth, plus the good part is I only spent 14.99 to get him conected, and now I have a piece of mind, because he can call me in case of emergencies.

As far as cell phones for seniors go, I'm with Yezzie of FL! It is very simple/user friendly with large numbers - perfect for the older folks like my grandma. Plus, the low price phone and monthly service fee can't be beat! My grandma has this phone and it's comforting to know that she's always within reach

Why can't manufacturers have just a simple down-loadable app which

simplifies phone use and excludes all the hi tech options??

My wife just wants a phone without the other junk. Snapfon seems to fit the bill for her and the seniors I know with cell phones.

oh im glad peopel are seeing that svc phone. I am about to pick one up for my mother. She really needs it and from everything ive read from people... people seem to absolutely love it. I havent really heard any complaints! is it possible that this could be the perfect one for my mom?

MOST "REAL" SENIORS (85 PLUS) SUFFER FROM POOR EYESIGHT AND POOR FEELING AND/OR STRENGTH IN THEIR FINGERS. NOT TO MENTION LOSS OF SHORT TERM MEMORY WHICH LIMITS THEIR ABILITY TO LEARN HOW TO USE ANY NEW DEVICE. THEREFORE, A TRULY GOOD CELLPHONE FOR SENIORS NEEDS TO HAVE THE FOLLOWING FEATURES:

1. ONE SOLID BODY, NO FLIP PHONES

2. LARGE BODY HELD BY ENTIRE HAND NOT FINGER TIPS

3. SLIP PROOF (RUBBERIZED) COVERING.

4. EXTRA LARGE BUTTONS WITH VOICE RESPONSE

5. ONE TOUCH SPEED DIALING (PROGRAMED BY OTHERS)

6. OPTIONAL VOICE DIALING COMMAND DIALING

7. CRADLE CHARGING AS THESE FOLKS CAN'T PLUG IN THE TINY OR USB TYPE CHARGE CORDS

8. LOCATOR BUTTON ON CHARGING BASE

9. AN EYE HOOK ON THE BOTTOM END TO WHICH A LONG HALLIARD IS CONNECTED SO THAT THE PHONE HANGS UPSIDE DOWN FROM THE NECK

10. RESEARCH TO FIND THE COLORS EASIEST SEE

note: patent is pending

I have to agree with a lot of the comments above. The tracfone svc phone for me was the best choice to give my grandmother who lives alone. There is no contract or fees and she can buy automatically month to month. SHe doesnt have the money or will ever talk the amount most contract phones allow... so spending all that dough on a more exspensive phone is just plain silly . She bought the samsung phone for 15 bucks and pays 7 dollars a month tops for this service!

A great phone for seniors is a Tracfone. I got my mother one and have loved knowing she has a reliable phone to make emergency calls when she is not around a land line. Her service averages less than $7 a month when I buy a $20 airtime card, which provides 60 minutes of airtime and three months of service. Tracfone gives people the safety and security of a wireless phone without the problems of a contract and monthly fees. Both my mother and I love her Tracfone.
