10 Reasons Digital TV Will Be a Disaster

We have one tv that we had to have the box on. We now have

two remotes and two ways the antennae has to be turned. Of course, we get up on a chair and do this to get the other channels we need. This digital image is not any better to my

old eyes...it looks the same. This must be another blunder by

our lawmakers and some scam to get all tvs hooked up on cable or

else.

We need one remote, one antennae that brings all.

Too bad the $40.00 can't be used for new TVs with digital tuners built in. I have three portable (battery-operated) TVs, two of which are hand held. I have yet to see a battery operated portable converter. These TVs will soon become paperweights.

If I could use the federal coupon to help buy new portables with digital tuners it would make the transition a little more acceptable.

Oh well - I guess Congress just doesn't investigate the full impact before it legislates - or just doesn't care.

Im writing a school paper on why you shouldn't switch to digital T.V., I thought this would bea good sight.

Friends,

Digital TV is going to go fine, it won't be a disaster. There will be a few minor hiccups, people will get things ironed out quickly, etc. A disaster is something like a hurricane or terrorist attack. The news should not be about hyperbole, although I understand that in the internet age, that is approximately all it is about. Also, Dear Jeff, that was nice and absurd, I laughed, but I think you didn't take it to enough of an extreme to get a good tr011ing response. Minimal points for effort. You need to go out there further, use more obscenities, sound stupider. Subtle doesn't work when you are trying to be inflammatory. 3 words: CAPS LOCK, BABY!

Thanks,

The wholesale forklift of existing sets seems to be a payoff to Sony, Toshiba and other TV companies. Wonder how much and who were the recipients of campaign donations?

I started the application process when it first began a year ago, anticipating problems. I was not disappointed. I was given a reference number when I first applied; when I had not received coupons, I inquired and found out they had been cancelled--no notice, no reason stated. I finally explained to consumer support and was told I had been approved. Again, no coupons. Another inquiry. Told my address had been approved and they couldn't send more. I replied they'd probably used the wrong address (I have two) but no one replied to that question and I was told to have a friend or relative order them for me. (No matter they would have had to perjure themselves.) And now they're out of coupons, with 100,000 on the waiting list. Go figure

It's time for a simpler America. Turn the TV off! Read a book. Go hiking. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise to get our priorities straight. Why not try this simple test for a month. Turn off the TV, the computer, the DVD/VCR player and go to bed earlier at night to get some of that extra rest you have been wanting for sometime. Give stress a kick in the who whos for a change. Maybe we would save a lot of money instead of buying the latest movie or nutritional snack pack or gadget that comes down the electronic avenue. I dont think that the digital conversion is a disaster but a gem load of opportunities to get things back in order. Who know, we just might save the local newspaper in the process while putting a lot liberal media personalities back in that place called irrelevant.

I have a tv with both an analog and digital tuner. My cable box works fine when connected to analog but when connected to the digital tuner I get a no signal message. If I connect the cable directly to the tv I receive some channels and the reception is very better. I want to know if new manufactured tv's will have analog tuners so my cable box will work if my present tv ever breaks and I have to buy a new one?

I asked my cable company this question but they couldn't answer it. I don't think they even knew what I was talking about.

This is a real pain. I live on a tight budget and had to give up cable tv when I realized it was the single monthly expense that was totally expendable and I don't really miss it since I barely manage to keep up with what I want to watch over the air. My digital reception is ok except every time my upstairs neighbor walks across his living room my picture pixilates and the audio drops out. I have two dvd recorders with hard drives which are no longer being manufactured for the N.American market. I'll still be able to use them with a converter box, but will only be able to time shift shows from a single station. I have a 5" tv/radio that I use in the kitchen. There is no way of connecting a converter box to this set and even if I could there is no room for it.As far as I can tell there is no comparable digital product on the market so I guess I will no longer be able to watch Jim Lehrer while fixing dinner.
