Costly, Incompatible Glasses Threaten 3D TV Sales

IT WILL NOT BE A WISE INVESTMENT TO BUY 3D TVs WITH GLASSES BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL NO LONGER BE BUYING THEM. 3DTVs WITH GLASSES ARE SHORTLY BECOMING OBSOLETE BECAUSE 3D PHONES ARE BEING PRODUCED BY EVO WHERE YOU CAN SEE IN 3D WITHOUT GLASSES. THEREFORE ALL THE 3DTVS WITH GLASSES THAT THE VARIOUS COMPANIES MADE WILL NOT SELL.

Was in Futureshop yesterday (like the Canadian equivalent to Circuit City or Best Buy)... After 4 weeks of having the Samsung 3D TV there, they have sold just 2 units. Ouch!. The cost of glasses is $450 per pair. Huge FLOP. Everyone watching has to have the glasses otherwise the person without glasses is watching a blurred screen.

FLOP.

3D TV in the home, this is going to be the biggest flop of all time, only when true holographic TV comes into being will there be any real demand outside the stupid rich with more money than brains.

The glasses are "ugly"? LOL. What is it a fashion show? The idea of 3d glasses is to allow you to see into a virtual 3d world. You're not meant to walk the city streets with them. And 3d glasses handed out at movie places usually don't let you keep their glasses. As for being costly they really aren't unless you are someone who has last years 2D TV and wants to dump it. My 9 year old 65 inch TV is going bad and this time I'm getting a 3D model. Sure I get that college kids, or people with no jobs wanting 32 inch LCD's or smaller think that any thing above $1000 is a fortune, but the tech wasn't designed for bathroom TV's. OR for those who only watch the news, then that's great. But there are those who want to watch a big screen. For those buying perhaps 40,50 inches and above the 3d tech is included in the set for free. The glasses cost a bit, but it's not that bad.

And not every one wants to watch foot ball or entertain 20 people. For that occasion they can watch in 2D. But for 2 or 3 family members, it's very affordable and sounds fun. However the new kits offered for a limited time give you free (or nearly free) glasses with the purchase of a new TV. I may go that way. If not, I will get a bigger set like 72 inch or 83 inch. But a 72 inch DLP is only $1700. The 3d glasses a few hundred more. What about the 3d blue ray player? Only $350! That's not that bad considering they were $1000 a few years ago and not 3d.

So yes, for those who want to ditch their old 2d set they will have to sell them and take a price hit. But for someone like me who needs to start over, it's not that much more.

Surely some manufacturer is anxiously trying to gear up to produce a "UNIVERSAL 3D HEADSET". A slide switch for Panasonic, one for Sony, one for Samsung....etc. Even though my timing was off, I bought the LG Blu-Ray / HD DVD player so one unit could do it all.

Unfortunatly my 'non-refunadable' unit was shipped on the very same day that Toshiba surrendered to Blu-ray.. ha ha on me. Getting the license from each mfgr will be the big hurdle. Maybe each mfgr would make a universal set that also works on their competitors. (yea, right). A universal headset would fullfil the old saying about supplying the puplic's demands... "WHEREVER YOU SPRING A LEAK, THE WORLD HANGS A BUCKET!"

Just read an article that said the first batch of 3d televisions sold out within the first couple of days. Yeah no one out there wants one.

It is like they are making it so IMPORTANT to have 3-D TV! I didn't buy a flat screen until my 20" (yes, I said my 20") was too old and that was last year...and then I only bought the cheapest 32" inch I could find! Could have bought a very nice 50", but why?? TV is a thing I use for news weather and the occassional relief from everyday life. It is not the main part of my life where I MUST have the latest and greatest...there fore, I will not be buying a 3D TV anytime!
