Quiz: Are You a Complainer?

Your problem is you post complaining as being a problem when it can get posative results. For example how can a boss know there is a problem needing to be corrected if it's not brough to his/her attention? The stigmatism of being called a "complainer" is wrong. Don't pretend there are no problems when there are.

I never thought of a solution but now I am going to!

Well, I don't think that I am really a complainer.

When I am upset about something, I 'd like to air it out off my chest to people

that I know and cared about...people whom I trust that will understand what I am going through and would like to sort out why I feel that way.

We all need someone to guide and counsel us.But then we stop to think and ponder what they told us. And pray about it.

But I do not like people who complain because babies are noisy or the did not get the correct change in the store when it is only one or two pennies short. Why don;t you just politely tell the cashier of the short with a smile??

When someone likes to complain to me I always like to ask the one question....'Do you know of any solutions to the problem that you are complaining about.' So before I complain I like to have a solution in mind that might change the the situation in a positive way of course.

I guess I'm saying become part of the solution instead of the problem.

In my mind, the difference between the two is as follows:

A critique is thoughtful and is used to improve or delete something that is no longer necessary. It is used to make a change or re-enforce something that is working

A complaint is mindless and whiney and is done when you do not like something that you CHOOSE not to improve or change. It serves no good purpose

If you take the survey with those eyes, I think you might get different results

Life is good!

I really think what must be considered is what is at the heart of a so-called complaint. Constructive criticism isn’t necessarily complaining if it is constructed and delivered in a manner which helps the receiver grow and become better. We are able to identify and solve problems more effectively when we foster an environment of transparency. Then it doesn’t necessarily become complaining, but rather open communication. Once again the content, context and method of delivery are vitally important. It comes down to perception and perspective.

Are you complaining?

I see a problem with this survey.....constructive critique can be lumped together with complaining. This survey is consequetnly biased in its retuls... My score was 18 but I do not see myself as a serious complainer.

'Complaining' is common and contagious. However, it is also an excellent method for management to easily identify real issues in the workplace, work with the 'complainer', request their ideas to fix the issue, give credit for that person's contribution publicly, and solve the issue while boosting overall morale.

'Complaining' is a normal, non-violent method of effecting changes in the workplace. 'All's well' in business occur as moments to savor, milestones sotospeak along the path to your goals. It's a great topic and I'll enjoy reading your book. Thanks!
