BUT, there is always a silver lining, sometimes we need to stop looking at things from the lense of scarcity, and look through the lens of abundance.. when you find it, you will find the opportunities for an honest days wage and honest days profit in providing value to others. Most nowdays take forgranted the value we receive on a daily basis, stop taking it for granted, and seek to provide value to others on your own rather than through your employer. As far as gvernment is concerned... they need to get every last one of them out, and get some new blood in there. With some laws in place to keep the fat cat businesses away from them.. or they will just buy our government system and we will be right back where we are now.

We either live on the wages generated by the production base, or the taxes. Unless we privatize education-and we may very well do this and soon- mass layoffs in public education will surly come, as it will in all industry supported only by our tax base. Get ready to pay monthly fees for privitatized police protection, trash collection and a thousand other services that we now take for granted - or simply do without! Don't forget, however, that we will still be expected to pay ever increacing taxes, including the forth coming health insurence tax - while the illegal immigrant will contnue to get his simultaneously on your dime!

Buzzards make a ton of cash during a depression. Pros: fly around till you see something dead or dying then cash in.

Cons: Half the time you have to sit on a tree branch looking fugly with your nose

down between your legs. Plus eating road kill.

Yeah Buzzards are the in thing now. I'm going down and signing up for buzzard academy tomorrow unless there is an online course.

It will be interesting to see what higher institutions survive and which ones fold over the next year. Many thought 2009 was bad. I guess with donations down and people looking more and more at community colleges we will see even more furghlows. The good news is now is a great time whether by choice or out of desperation to look into developing a new skill or talent set.

In the future I think we will see less full-time careers and more folks doing work for more than one company or simply doing project work.

Great... I finally decide to switch careers and go into teaching (which I love) and I keep hearing that this is probably the worst time to go into teaching.. (I hear this from teachers not sites like this one).

i guess I will stick to international overseas schools until the US gets its act together.

As in teaching at a public school? HA!!!!! Where? Not in California! I'm in one of the few growing districts in SoCal (we are expecting 230 new students 09-10), yet I am one of 30 low seniority teachers who just got a RARE Aug. 15 layoff.

The Governator is trying to balance the budget on the backs of California's schools/students. Don't start telling me that WE aren't teaching. I've been in all levels of education for 21 years and have met exactly 2 lousy teachers. My sons (smart children ages 16 and 23) have had the opportunity recently to assist me in my classroom (we had to completely clear out our classrooms with very little notice....and teach at the same time...so my sons came to help pack up). They were stunned at how my student seems lot be incapable of absorbing even the most basic concepts. But I digress....

More money to education isn't necessarily the answer if teachers have no say in how that money might be used to help the students (and I'm not talking about salary). In the meantime, that's not an issue since less money is going to education and Calif. managed to short its districts the EXACT amount that the Feds sent as stimulus. Now Governator is trying to suspend Prop 98 that guarantees a minimum amount to schools.

Now is NOT the time to be a new teacher!!!
