Overrated Careers

anything involving business is also way overrated. I cant tell you how many people in my shcool think they will be some chief executive officer the minute they get a bachlors degree in anything involving business. That should be at the very top of the list in my opinion. I cant tell you how many MBAs I know end up as part time night managers at the local pizza place.

social work is definitely overrated. Pay is awful, hours are long, and public perception is not good. Don't recommend it .

people on tv make it loooks so easy but it is the hardest job and most chef do not even get pay 15 dollars an hour and people are so ungreatful they do not appreciate the work of a chef.

I'm so glad that teaching finally made it to the overrated list. Because only the people who are called to it should be doing it. Too many people flock to college thinking that it will be easy, and that they'll have the summers off. While summers off are one of the perks of this job, instead, one should look at the extra hours, and the fact that there is little reward in this job --until the spring, when you get to see how far your students have come since the fall, and you can see the impact you've made on their lives. But 8 months is long time to wait for the gratification of what you do. It's worth it though, but not everyone has that stamina, especially in today's culture of: "I want it NOW."

He teaches full time and raises cattle and soybeans in his "spare time" I guess he's completely overrated. Maybe teaching America's youth and feeding America is enough. It's not the two jobs I reccomend for anyone, but SOMEONE has to do it...

The biggest suprise to me was that farmers were listed as overrated. First of all, How can a farmer be overrated? And second; I would never even think that Farming was a desired profession.

If we didn't have farmers then everyone would starve.

And farming is not easy work, nor does it carry fame, or a seemingly extrodinary profitable outcome. With property taxes being as high as they are and all the long harvesting hours that come with the job; this definately wouldn't have been my guess of an 'overrated career'.

Bottomline - If you love what you do, you will do well no matter what. This has to be the best advice anyone has given me. It really is true. If you love your job, then there is nothing better - your promotion and pay prospects are high.

Alas, this is hardly true for most people around the world.
