All those therapist... what about a speech language pathologist... short a speech therapist. That's what I do. I work for a rehab team that consists of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. the best thing? people say 'what is a speech therapist?' less competition just like our cousin profession audiologist.

you cant just judge what you want to be on money only tho you have to love what you do or at least like it otherwise you'll just get bored or not give it the best you can which is important cause the better you work and the more expierence and love you have for your career the more money you will make regardless of whether people say you will make good money or not

This is only a list of some jobs...you are more successful when you have three things...1. a PASSION for your field, 2. education (whether it's an Associate, Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate), 3. Experience...this means what have you accomplished, what skills will make you an asset to the organization you are trying to work for...don't get discouraged...if there are 1500 people applying for 10 positions well you as an individual need to apply to those 10 jobs and even jobs not directly in your area such as a neighboring town/city....also you need to shop around for college programs the same way you would when going grocery shopping...some colleges still have prestige but are cheaper than others, give out scholarships...you can also take out loans and put others in deferment...for instance post high school I got my bachelors (4yrs), worked 2 yrs, and enrolled in a 1 yr masters program (there are some even though few)...so make sure you have both the hands on experience and education bc both are equally important...networking also helps...ask others how did they find their jobs, look through online job searches...my mom used to say you have to crawl before you walk...start small to get a foot in the door and then move on when its the right time...but always leave on good terms...hope this helps

I have worked 25 years as a journeyman electrician making 50k plus a year and 2009 was the first time I was laid off for more than 3 weeks..Working as a Lineman is a better career at the moment..It is true that this field is losing many to retirement and few are coming in at entry level..It's not as dangerous as it sounds but you do have to be fearless when it comes to heights..Being a successful Electrician or Lineman takes at least 5 years to reach Journeyman status but most of the training is on the job; no college required..A good way to get started is through the IBEW union or even better land a job with any Utility company. The electrical field is very down now but I highly endorse it for someone exiting high school with no college money.

I have been a RN for over 20 years. My job security depends upon not staying in the same field but rotating through a series of specialties like Womens Health, Med/Surg, and ER. I will survive 2010 as I have all the other years. As long as people need medical attention, I will have a job.

My mother has been a Registered Nurse for almost 30 years. She's been working at the same hospital since she graduated college. But the hospital has recently decided to shut down the maternity wing, leaving her out of a job. That doesn't sound like a very "safe" job for 2009.

"Engineering" is now, by popular vote, considered a single career. I'm speechless.
