Eastern grey squirrels:

males kill the young so that the females re-enter oestrus. stressed females may kill their young.

Belding's ground squirrels:

When Belding's ground squirrels fail to attend their territories, unrelated females or one-year-old males may arrive and kill pups. Yearling males usually eat the carcasses, so their infanticide may be motivated by hunger.

Lions:

New adult lions take over a pride; they often kill the young and thus eliminate the chance of any rivalry against offspring he later fathers.

Butterflies:

The caterpillars of Monarch and Queen butterflies often eat the eggs of the species

Baboons Langurs and other primates:

The males of several primate species, including the common langur, practice infanticide. Bands of male langurs will attack a mixed troop, driving off the males and killing the offspring before mating with the females. Baboons also kill their young and occasionally even eat them. Dominant male gorillas and chimpanzees may kill the young of their species

. Gulls and other birds:

Many species of gull that nest in large colonies eat eggs and young. This may be a response to crowding, but male gulls, which lack young of their own, are more likely to eat the eggs and young of their own species. Some parent birds may eat the young when populations become dense, or food scarce. Crows may eat eggs and chicks of rivals to improve their own chance of successful breeding.

Kangaroos:

Kangaroos can have three young at different stages of development. One inside the body, one in the pouch and one that lives outside the pouch for much of the time, but still suckles from the mother. In severe conditions, the mother may not have enough energy to feed the older young, so this is left to its own devices. If conditions deteriorate, the mother will remove the pouch young. This means that the embryo in the body develops and soon occupies the vacant pouch. Whether this course of action counts as infanticide is debatable, but if the mother died, so would the young.

Dolphins:

kill harbor porpoise babies. In Scotland, scientists found baby harbor porpoises washed up with horrific internal injuries. They thought the porpoises might have been killed by weapons tests until they found the toothmarks. Later, dolphins were caught on film pulping the baby porpoises—the dolphins even used their ecolocation to aim their blow at the porpoises' vital organs.

If you can't find a job, as has been my dilemma, I volunteer. One reason volunteering works is it gives you something to put on your resume. Second it has made me take a breather from the pain of stress, boredom, resentment and fear of financial ruin. I look at some people who are much worse then myself and I regain some strength and peace of mind to forge ahead. Sitting on my duff doesn't do it for me. My plans for tech have broadened to the point of going back to school while looking for an internship. Living on less and applying for aid is something that even the most experienced have had to do these past two years. So get out, take advantage of the time since you may start bitching about the job where hours are longer than expected. Pick up a book on something is stimulating and write about it. Then you can use writing opinions as another skill. Learning and Volunteering works.

Dear Mad in MI,

Regarding your concerns about speaking English in America, perhaps you should work on your own English before making complaints about others. Your grammar and spelling leave much to be desired. Have you proofed your resume and business plan?

Additionally, you should lose your sense of entitlement. Our country was built upon the sweat equity of millions of immigrants. Many sacrificed and struggled to build businesses and make our country what it is today. There were no free handouts. You did not qualify for a loan at the bank because you haven't the means to repay it and have no credit history. It has nothing to do with your race or gender. I suspect that your business plan either wasn't sound or you did not present it well. Regardless of the sum, in the middle of a credit crisis, no bank in the world will lend you any amount, not even "20k" if they do not stand a reasonable chance of being repaid.

These are difficult times for all of us. And, before you ask, I am in the middle of trying to establish my own business and do not have a steady paycheck coming in either. It takes hard work and dedication mixed with some risk and hopefully some reward at the end. I suggest you start looking internally and stop blaming the immigrants, those who can't or choose not to speak English, anyone who hasn't hired you, the banks that will not loan you any money. etc. for all of your own shortcomings.

Unemployed, and my solution is to breathe air that is still not taxed, and to find potable water that is not owned by a water works, and shelter where no rent is due, and clothes that have been abandoned, and food that comes from nature, or has been cultivated on land that nobody cares about.

City life demands money, but living requires no money at all, just faith in that nature of which humans are a part of. Some day, I will be wanted by the municipal system again, but I dont know if I will be interested in what it has to offer.
