Relying on your instanct is tough for most of us. It takes years to build confidence. It doesn’t really just happen if you know what I mean.

Let me get this straight: you haven't lived in Arlington,VA in over a decade, and that makes you an expert on the job market here?

Stay postive everyone. There are bright spots in the country. Be willing to relocate. I'm considering relocating to Texas or another "healty job market" state if I can't find what I am looking for in Indiana. Consider also going back to a community college to gain skills for jobs that are projected to grow. Also if you have a job SAVE for the future and DO NOT SPEND beyond your means. Also do not get into debt and be a slave to the lender especially the morgage beast that will suck your pay check dry. Consider renting this lets you be free from a lender and gives you the chance to have housing within your means and the flexability to move if you had to and not be chained to a morgage or a house that cannot sell. This can help you in times like these.

Arlington is a bastion of federal government jobs and private industry employers, that have large federal government contracts. Unless one has just graduated from school or is politically cconnected, it is silly to list Arlington (and the Baltimore-Washington corridor) as a place for job growth. It tkes years to get a federal government position and they don't pay particularly well if you try to enter at mid or senior level from theprivate sector. And, don't talk about the large # of lawyers there and the equally large # of military and governmet retirees who are still in the workforce and competing for every available opportunity in the greater DC area. Arlington is lovely (I lived there for about 6 months in 1999) but there are not a lot of jobs available there -unless you have lots of time to try for a federal spot-lots of connections and lots of money, since living near any Metro stop can be costly if you are NOT fro a big city like NY, Boston, LA, Chicago or SF.

The info about Salt Lake City is incorrect. Brigham Young University is not in Salt Lake City. Its in Provo, Utah which is in no way part of the Salt Lake City metro area. Its not even in the same county as Salt Lake. Its located in the Orem / Provo metro area of Utah county.

I can hardly call it 'growth' when certain major manufacturers were laying off 4,000 employees a WEEK less than one year ago. That would be Wichita, Kansas...

I was wandering around the internet looking for the best places to look for jobs when I came across this site. Which I thought would tell me just that from the sounds of it. However you were right, I really enjoyed reading your comment because I feel that America is to greedy and power hungry to actually see the problem in it's entirety let alone acknowledge that it's source is the very people who live in this country. I never blog or comment on anything on the internet so I just wanted to say how reassuring it is to know that there are some level headed, intelligent people still left. Not following all the others in their chaos of trying to find someone else to blame and fix it. Lazy lazy people.

Good job article guys. I would like similar done for senior and teen job seekers.

Mathematically evolution is impossible to have creasted us and the universe so were created by a more divine and definitely loving being, no Satan, hmm. First guy is living proof of Satan doing a great job and the 2nd two are even more!

The church bad? (Oh, the abuse thing, perspective: its sad, and tragic no matter than number of victims, but let's be real the Catholic Church as a whole supports 85% of the poor around the world and yet less than 1% of their total number of children of their schools and churches report abuse by clergy. Unlike almost 10% in foster care and even higher in juvenile correction facilities! Replace churches? Are you nuts, the ability to come together as a community is what FREES countries and that began and ends with the church assembly and its reminders to us to think outside of ourselves. Why do you all be as outspoken about what you are really afraid of, and that is responsibility for yourselves, and those around you to be better people. Namely protect the women and children of the world and men raise good men and be one and bring justice and love upon the men who are not good or healthy. Bless you all and our president Obama. I didn't vote for him, but thank him and our military for getting the top two Al Quaida leaders! (And the threat began before Clinton dummy! There's is an unending one of a few self-loathing radical Muslims vs. Christians trying to "right what they think was a 2,000 yr. old wrong.
