My brother was hired by a Haynes Subcontractor called Corey. His bosses name is Ray. Stay away from this employer. This last week, he worked 80 hours+, he only earned 50 dollars. His boss told him that it was from scratching the furniture. Even though he tripped and landed on a freaking nail. No workers comp or nothing. This is out of a supposedly 350 dollar work week that was supposed to be 450 because he was a driver for them. No overtime has ever been paid to him. Also, one day this week, he was told if he didn't go down and pick up a moving truck, after his boss told him he could leave for the day, that he would be fired. He is always on time and always courteous to the customers he delivers to and today, if you can freaking believe this, his boss told him that he was going to charge him 20 dollars for not having his shirt tucked in. Instead of telling him to tuck it in. What the hell is wrong with haynes. Do they even know that their subcontractors are abusing their employees. Is there any legal ramifications to employers like this? You think that this just happens to immigrants? Well, think again. American citizens are being treated the same.

The State of Virgina (Radford University), being to cheap and money hungery replaces state workers with part time, no benefits, $7.00 a hour contact labors, refuses to exceapt these people as state workers, until you get injured on the job, then you are a state worker and can not sue your employeer, you can get (va is the hardest state to get workers comp) workers comp maybe?
But you once injured are now in a position where your right as a amercian taken from you to go to court, because then and only then are you a state worker.
The state can play it any way they want as long as you get nothing.

While it is morally wrong to rip off illegal immigint employees, it would be really wrong to enact laws that give them any more than the boot from the workplace that is ripping them off. Make laws that will not allow them to be hired in the first place! Make laws that will have them throw out of the country unless they apply for citizenship immedately, and pay the taxes that go along with the privelege of living here. Don't even try to make me feel bad for those that are being mistreated by the employer when they themselves are here illegally, not paying taxes and being nothing but a massive financial burden to the social services paid for by the rest of us. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

As other had said, this issue is deep-rooted one that government or political leaders don't bother or have no qualm about this issue. They are already sitting on their laurel and fantasies to acquire more wealth throught tax money and protections of their respective businesses. I am sadden of what I observed " the exploitation of workers "The Labor-only-contracting" scheme that workers has no security of tenure and his basic rights are being violated. Is this a way of life that we can be fraud-off?
How dare you ,Mr. Congressman, Mr. Senator and Mr. President of not doing any corrective measures to alleviate the hardship of the workers who succumbed to this tyranical system. Please do something to improve to the welfare workers.

The deep rooted issue, is, in a word, "loyalty." When the Capitalists sell-out entire national indistries for profits, loyalty to its own citizens and own country must perish. And usually they are rewarded by share-holders that are usually American. Its a insideous but fairly transparent cycle of current affairs.
The saints who write about changing, retooling and so on, are really rational pesants for Capitalists. When the Capitalists need Starbucks expresso-makers (which is not a professional morgage paying career, although some are convinced it is), then dump the fish-fryers or auto-workers. Or dump those that have just spent 5 years retooling for these very jobs.
The failure of Loyalty however begins within the individual. We live in a society where loyalty has no value, moral integrity has no value, and people are judged by the stuff they fill their houses with. He is hobo who hasn't gap clothing. Really now?
The failure or abuse of loyalty to make profit is rampant in all levels of American society. The current banmking crisis is a case in point. It is a fact that there are two designs of morality and Loyalty, although the report doesn't care to illumianet this: one for the rich and one for the poor. Those who disagree with me have no concept of loyalty at all and are in the process of retooling.
The American Society is morally rotten at the core, from the top down. Moreover the American society has become vulgar. Vulgarity is the norm, now.
Those who think retooling and altering and moving will improve their lot are myopic optimists. Why alter and change your entire livelihood and environment for the chance of buying new stuff? I am not convinced that this retooling would help anyway, Capitalists are out for profits, not Loyalty.

The only thing I see that we as Americans have done wrong is that we have allowed our goverment & corporate greed to go on unchallanged for too long!!! Why can't we get the same health care coverage congress gets, I mean if it's good enough for them, don't the American people deserve the same? And why do we continue to allow big business to out source our jobs to other countries & then get tax breaks??? Why does it cost sooooo much for medicine,& food 2 basic needs, while our minimum wage won't cover the cost of a basic exsistance. And yet our taxes, cost of food, health care & utilities keep going up, everything that is necessary!!! When will it stop, do they not realize that if the American people can't afford to pay the price they are charging they will be the next to fail!!!!

Im sorry but I don't think the answer is to make it easier for "undocumented" ie.. illegal workers to get paid more. I think that americans who were born here and pay taxes here should be hired for those jobs. A case in point is my husband. An american, was laid off along with other american workers and replaced by workers contracted from russia. The reason for the lay off was "we need to cut labor costs." Yet his boss hired six Russian workers to replace Two americans to get a tax break from the federal govt. of $125,000 per worker. The russian workers are paid at least $3.00 an hour more and work 56 more hours a week. How is that cutting labor costs? The same employer fired me because I got kicked by a cow( The employer is a dairy farm) and later got pregnant. And refused to pay for the surgury necessary to fix the injury.
While I believe that people ought to be paid for the work they do and know their rights, I do not believe that illegal immigrants should be entitled to anything. Including a job. Minimum wage or not. The only think they are entitled to in my opinion is a one way ticket back to their own country until they can learn how to be compliant with our laws.
They dont pay taxes and contribute nothing to our society. A society that gives them everything from food to shelter to help paying their bills. While people like my husband and I are told that we make too much money to qualify for any kind of help. We are expected for a family of four to live on $368.00 a week before taxes. Yet immigrants qualify for all of the "help" programs because they are uneducated or unskilled.
The answer isnt to give more jobs and equality to immigrants the answer is America needs to take care of Americans first.

In this economy, you take what you can get. Case in point: I have one graduate degree, a graduate certificate of study in college teaching, and two four-year degrees. Because jobs are so few and hard to get now, I accepted employment as an elementary teacher in a Montessori school.
Contracted hours: 35/week.
Hourly wage: below industry standard
Benefits: none
Paid prep time: 0 (last year I put in 20-40 hours a week -- no exaggeration!)
Overtime: not authorized. The weeks when I exceeded 40 paid hours, I was paid at my normal rate. With this employer, squeaky wheels get their hours reduced, and I can't afford that.
However, as unemployment rates continue rising, I have a job that partially supports my family and my bills are paid on time. Meanwhile, I keep looking for more suitable employment.
