Years ago, when I was still in the job market, working for Federal Government contractors and constantly changing to new contracts, I met a contracting business owner/CEO in a social setting.

He told me that the old adage of "It's what you know, and who you know that gets you a job" ------- has changed.

He then said, "Now, it's WHAT you know, WHO you know, and WHO LIKES YOU that determines if you get a job, and if you keep it."

This, my friends, is the down-side of a capitalistic society and economy. It is getting harder and harder to be true to yourself.

I strongly recommend getting on God's Economy. It is far superior to the American Corporate economy. You will have to research this on your own, but the New Testament is a good place to start --- it says a lot about humanity and money. ---- LF

It's also important to mention that about 40% of all jobs listed, really don't exist.

S.H. ~ Thank you so much for taking the time in writing your response of "LISTEN". I really appreciated hearing and/or reading this article from you. What you spoke of is totally correct in that you ARE the first person that anyone comes into contact with from a corporation/company aspect. You are actively practicing the Golden Rule; i.e., treating others as you would like to be treated. Practicing good manners is never to be treated lightly. I, like many others, am unemployed but actively looking for a position.

Speak clearely and make sure you are and not overbearing. shake interveiwer's hand firm bot not hard. Let interveiwer know you are honest, hard working, and always, on time for work. Last but not least be nice, that in it self carries most of the weight.

Whether your advice is based on your experience and opinion or it is expert advice from a professional hiring manager, it is appreciated from this person. I just recently resigned from a 12 year career as an army officer to spend actual time with my husband in the same country. Needless to say, I never applied for anything I did in the army except the initial program to become a pilot. Now that I am unemployed and trying to learn the ropes I will read the advice of just about anyone to get a step ahead. Thanks for the article, and don't feel bad about the rude remarks on any blog. I find that many people in America are unappreciative and self serving, ready to complain at an instant and not fix any size mess on their own. But just remember there are still good hard working ones out there, otherwise I would not have fought for them for two years overseas!

"This is old information, so elementary, tell me something I don't alread Know".

Maybe Green won't, but I will.

Notice I'm quoting you and the "alread" which means you don't know that its

correct spelling is already.

So there you go. Are you happy now?

Oh! By the way, something else you don't know is that you're a socially ignorant jerk.

Information is displayed for those who don't already know, not 'know it all jerks like you.

Took that job, wanted it to work out SOOOO badly. Every day I showed up, went to lunch on the two minute, you can go now. Folded letters on this sentence, even when I was qualified to write letters. Knew how to go out and get information on insurance for the company, did that. Came back from lunch one day to "We think you will leave us for something better". I wasn't even looking. Unemployed once again! I am an LPN, I can find PRN in our area, but thats it. I need benifits.
