Kerry - what a ton of great information in such a short article. I wish I had read your article before starting my business, Ideal Bite -- especially the part about getting an accountant. I thought "how hard can QuickBooks be" - but the fatal flaw was not QB, but instead my lack of time to do anything with it! So we got pretty behind in our accounting, and then I had to spend a solid week with an accountant to get back up to speed. Not my favorite week!! Thanks again for the great info! - Jen Boulden

Most small business fail and 99.9 % do not compare to "corruporations" compensations. If they did ... Most of us would be exploiters !!!!!

If you manage the business well, and with luck, you sure gonna earn more than what you were getting as salary under your Boss. You will also have your own time to manage yourself.

The intention of the articles are to notify and announce that business is the only way, to get rich. Nowadays, we can see on the road people driving elegant cars such BMW and Mercedes and we keep wondering how that people rich but not happen to us. I am from Malaysia and things also happen in here. For people who cannot stand anymore, they tend to involved themselves into such as rich quick scheme, gambling and involved in corruption.

The conclusion, business is one and only to get rich...but there is price to pay...believe and conceived.

Consider yourself working for somebody for 5 years without any new useful idea given to your boss. Then, you should remain an employee, otherwise you may fail if you become your own boss.

A comment for Mr. Duthler.

Excellent and helpful advice Mr. Duthler. However, let me give you a piece of advice also, if you don't mind. Please don't forget to watch your grammar. Here are a couple of examples of common mistakes made when one forgets that the thought that crosses our mind may sound as we hear it when spoken. However, once that thought is put into written form, it is spelled in a different manner.

In points 4 and 5, you writeas follows:

4) If your married talk it over with your spouse.

5) Is there a market for the services or goods your going to offer? Did you do a market research.

The correct way should be: "If you're married..." or "If you are married...."

In # 5 it should be: "Is there a market for the services you're going to offer?"

Hope I didn't offend you. I just wanted to reciprocate by providing you with a different kind of advice too. Thank you,

1. Be prepared to work long hours.

2. Evaluate your qualifications:

a) Skills - what can you do?

what are you good at?

how efficient are you?

2) Education - a diploma is not evidence, go to a testing facility and prove you are educated. If you do not know accounting, at least 101. GO BACK TO SCHOOL!

3) Personallity traits - enlist the services of a qualified Psychologist are you suited for self employment?

4) If your married talk it over with your spouse.

5) Is there a market for the services or goods your going to offer? Did you do a market research.

6) A franchise business may be a good option. They train, market search, and hold hands with you.

I could go on for hours, but I think you get the idea.
