Of course postings by Roberta are legit. This is happening in many companies, especially in supporting roles. It's a simple game that employer plays, knowing that a law suit is a suicide equivalent for the bullied employee. A much harsher punishment for acts of Roberta and the like is needed. If they act in life threatening way, they should be treated like those that intend to commit murderer.

"The economy sucks so more jobs move overseas so the precious company you work for can make more money than they need. "

Who are you to decide that? Businesses *do not exist* to provide jobs. They exist to make money for their owners, period.

If you don't like the job, find another. If you can't find one you like, start your own business. It's easy to whine and cry like a victim. The presumption is that you are a functioning adult, Lucille, which means that, if you stay where you are, you do so by choice and are not a victim.

I completely agree with Pong. A guy who can bring money in for the company need not be a good boss, and vice versa. count yourself lucky if you get someone whoch is good in both.

Most people are reasonable, and most workers expect their bosses to be reasonable, competent, professiona (and maybe compassionate, caring, courteous too). So, have you ever wondered why many complain about nightmare bosses? Because there is a disconnect between promotion criteria and these qualities that we expect of bosses. In most companies, promotion is based on achievement of results that impact directly the profit, which does not always depend on the promotee being a "good boss" kind of person -- there are many more other ways of achieving profit, e.g. being a slave driver, a money counter, or ruthless with hiring & firing as the economic situation shifts by the day.

To put it simply: a high achiever does not make a good boss. So, that is why you would be very lucky indeed if your direct boss is kind and understanding, yet capable enough to deliver (and hence keep his job long enough and be your knight in armour when needed). The combination of professional competence and fine human qualities is a rare find, anywhere in the world.

Do you know what the problem is in the US workforce this September 2010? The economy sucks so more jobs move overseas so the precious company you work for can make more money than they need. Isn't gluttony one of those deadly sins? The only jobs that are available are "sucker" jobs where they'll use you until you are no more. Private companies employ supervisors who are allowed to harrass good employees, simply because of reasons they only know. You are supposed to be hired to do a job but if you don't treat that person like God, well hell comes your way. Management knows but are hired to protect the company, not the worker. The harder you work, the harder they'll work you until they burn you out or stress you out or ... And people wonder why violence in the workplace ensues. It's only going to get worse until companies learn to value their workers and not keep bad managers in place.

There are alot of things that corporations should be legally obligated to do and that they should be barred from doing (unless they want to incur a VERY hefty fine). They are getting away with murder at the employees' expense. Our nation needs more regulation of corporate practices.

To Heather Kosman of CA @ Aug 19, 2010 13:53:54 PM - I am very impressed by your keen insight. Roberta has been getting harrassed by someone for months now. One form of harrassment has been the posting of false statements on the Internet and signing them as if they came from Roberta. This is only one example of many.
