1. You define yourself by your role as a mother, not by your role as an employee (by calling yourself "Jonathan's Mom")
2. He specifically said that there are exceptions, and you talk about yourself and your situation only, which does nothing but show that you could be an exception. You didn't even mention whether your situation is the exception or the rule among those your know. Among my friends (most of whom are in their mid-20s to mid-30s) I know quite a few women who work "for fun," or at least are willing to go into easier fields with lower salaries because they expect that their husbands will do the "real work" to provide for them.
I'm also an exception (single young professional with no intentions of marrying or having children, who actually enjoys climbing the corporate ladder) but that doesn't make Frank's statement invalid.

I am a corporate manager and I am privvy to staff salaries. In my experience I have never seen an unjust salary gap. In all cases it was plainly obvious why one person earned more than another and that being productivity. I don't pay my staff to make friends with everyone and socialize. They are paid to perform a job as directed by me. No exceptions.
Even more ironic is that those who complained about their salary the most, were also the weaker team members. That should speak volumes about the content of this article.

So compensation has to do with what you *do*, not what you *are*...??? For some crazy reason doctors are *worth* more than say, lawyers? (more lawyers are women these days :)
But I got it, everybody should earn the same, regardless of race, sex, or job. Custodians will make the same as brain surgeons.
How will the liberals spin this one?

Frank of MI - you have some nerve - work as a hobby? I only wish I were that bored!!!!! You probably long for the days when women who got pregnant were forced to leave their jobs so the men folk could step in and provide for their families. My husband works in the automotive industry. Job security? Not so much. I work because WE have three children that WE have to provide for. Yes, I went to college and earned a graduate degree. Yes, I have been in this career field for more than 20 years. Yes, I would LOVE to work fewer hours and be home with our children more than I am. However, it is not financially sound to do that. I would love to work part-time, but it would make providing for our family during the "lean times" (including those oh so familiar LAYOFFS that my husband experiences working for the auto industry) tougher. With my working as well, WE know that our children will be able to eat on a regular basis, the mortgage will be paid for, health insurance is in place (three kids tend to spend a lot of time with the pediatrician), and someday, we will be able to retire and not eat cat food as a regular part of the menu. Work out of boredom? Get real.

I have worked as an administrative manager in the pharmacy profession for 35 years and have hired 100's of pharmacists. There has NEVER been an hourly salary difference between male and female pharmacists. The weekly salary differential noted in the article is because females as a rule work fewer hours per week than their male counterpart. There is no gender bias in the industry that I have seen.
The profession of pharmacy is now dominated by females with the graduate ratio being 3:1 female vs. male.

A very interesting trend is that corporate directors seem to make significantly more but there are far fewer women corporate directors. This is interesting. One has to wonder at the reasons for this.
It would be curious to study the individual companies which do pay them more and see if these companies historically pay more, in general, or if they individually compensate women and men differently.
There is also the issue of "self-selection", is it perhaps that if companies cannot pay at a certain level that women feel motivated to leave the organization?
There are a large number of possibilities. In order to understand them better one qoule have to get at the details.
