Your next job will come about through plain old luck.
I switched careers in the past through luck (hired and trained in an area with zero prior knowledge--healthcare finance-related work), and have jumped back into a job market (after returning to higher ed for a while) IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RECESSION.
No major strategy either time. Just aimed and somehow hit the mark.
You can plan and plot ten ways until Sunday, but the truth is, that it's often just plain luck, just having gotten your app. and other materials in front of the right person at the right time.
My next job, too, will most likely come about via just plain luck.
Don't over-plan. Murphy's Law will work against you when you're overly-prepared. Just apply already. And keep going. And don't stop.
Luck.
Trumps everything else.

America's should work out of pride for their work despite the coup corporations have pulled by allowing massive corporate donations made illegal during Teddy Roosevelts administration. There was also the 1978 Supreme Court ruling forcing OSHA to no longer pull surprise safety inspections. I ask all Free loaders
to do research in your spare time. Check out workinggroup.org and follow the money

I believe it works both ways. However, why would I want to put my personal info on the web for someone to "steal" and then ruin my credit so I can't find an employer to hire me after a "credit check" has been completed. I'll take my chances and do it the old fashion way and be safe.

Compare this report to "Five Myths that Are Crippling Your Job Search." This report is exactly "Myth" Number One in that report! Since the reports contradict one another, this leads me to question very seriously this magazine's trustworthiness in their reporting.

Trying to connect with past associates is good. Using a combination of search methods gives you the best chances.
Maybe looking into a job board that combines social networking and job searches like at www.LocalHires.com. All of there jobs are also on Facebook, Twitter and Linked In plus you can comment on their wall.

Two thoughts. 1) Networking is paramount. Get on Linkedin or other social media and find a connection in your target companies. 2) Keywords in your resume are crucial because some HR software are the only eyes on your application.
I've been hearing some great job search advice on an internet radio show on www.jobtalkamerica.com
