Helpful article, thanks. I've switched over to bartering recently for most of anything I can get without having to shell out cash. There are a couple sites out there to use, to connect with people who are looking to trade/swap items or even services (carpentry work for auto work, etc). Try www.Swaphog.com. They guarantee the swap and act as a 3rd party by receiving all items first. Then they inspect and audit all items before sending each party their items. it eliminates dead beat barters that never mail their items on other sites. It's very safe and easy to use.

Having exchanged my two vacation rental properties on Sanibel Island, Florida, I can say from personal experience that with the right combination of factors, bartering between vacation rental owners can result in some terrific "bargains".
But until now, exchanges, like vacation rentals themselves, have been a trifle iffy.
