I feel so much pressure right now. Time is running out for me to have a baby but I'm no where near being able to support my child financially. I grew up poor and I really do not want my children to face the same problems I had.
I can probably get the $5000 together, but taking the 3 months off with 1/2 pay really scares me.

i agree with the tip not to shop before baby arrives... i went way overboard with newborn clothing and items that i havent even used yet, my baby is 9 weeks and $100's in unworn newborn clothing has already been packed away.

It is worth checking out the soon to be released 'How to afford time off with your baby' by becky Goddard-Hill (vermilion 2009) It contains 101 top tips for affording your time off from party ideas through to affordable but fanatstic baby clothes. The book spans baby to pre-school and every eventuality in between. Brilliant. Funny too! The author blogs at www.babybudgeting.blog.co.uk

Having a baby is a expensive ordeal and a beautiful experience. Careful planing is needed when it comes to finances since the economy don't seem it's going to pick up no where soon Gas prices going through the roof! Some things for baby can be found used but be careful to check recall organizations on things such as strollers and car seats. One place i know on line is http://www.recoupbabygear.com keep checking some excellent baby gear comes up.
