Ray Fisher gets my vote for Citizen Of The Year, even if no such thing exists.
Most of us have been beaten senseless with train-loads of doom and gloom regarding the current economic situation. My family and I are feeling the brunt just like millions of others. I took a break from my job search just to look at the latest update from US News. Same ole', same ole... Don't get me wrong. I'm not at all suggesting we should sugar coat this mess. However, I do believe if the press doesn't back away from inundating the public with tsunami-like waves of information that "the end is near," we could quite easily talk ourselves straight into the history books.....by falling into the SECOND Great Depression in US history.

It seems every day another story emerges concerning our economy and gripes about a different aspect of the meltdown. People are now saving instead of spending is the latest gripe, slowing our economy even more as if somehow we average Americans are to blame for this entire mess. When will the press, pundits, politicians and Wall Street paperweights wake to realize we average Americans have lost our jobs, savings, retirements, investments, confidence, security, stability and self-esteem all just so we can read some pinheaded opinion that Americans are hurting the economy by not spending on a darn football game, well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse us!!! NBC, ticket scalpers, Tampa and the NFL are losing money yet I haven't noticed the NFL players in the unemployment line nor the owners, support personnel, vendors, field maintainers or uniform cleaners yet it is we average Americans who will scrape for money tomorrow for food, shelter, clothing, medicine and assurance that the next day will bring a better day. Perhaps Tampa doesn't have residents committing suicide after they lost everything because that is something to complain about at present but losing money on a Super Bowl game just somehow pales to what we average Americans are facing daily. Hence, these stories are getting very, very old!!!
