This is another one of those hair brain schemes to help Spread the wealth .Why not make it $5000 dollars per child? The 1st thing that came to my mind was .These persons or companies who offer to give you x amount of dollars now in return they receive the accumulated at a later date.

I am tired of supporting or trying to support the world within the U.S. and the folks we 'elect' to help protect us from stupidity such as this! If you want every child to have $500 at birth, give the parents an option to deduct this amount from their taxes. Allow up to $500/child per year to be taken off the gross taxable wage. This would benefit both children and parents. It would give them an incentive to save that money. That amounts to $9.62 (rounded up) per week in savings per child. This is just slightly more than 1 hour of minimum wage earings. If parents can't afford that, they shouldn't be having a child in the first place.

This is pure and simple socialism in the same direction that Great Britain has been heading since WWII. Pure and simple. Why should my tax dollars be given to some one who has yet to contribute to the economicc welfare of this country. Every child born here means every illegal immigrant anchor baby. Do you want more of them to come?

What in the world are our politicians doing? Talk about the ultimate nanny state. We spend billions and billions on poor people each year and what does that buy us? The richest poor people in the world. Stop the handouts. Stop spending money we don't have. Stop bankrupting our future.

2 billion dollars, not 2 trillion. I looked at my calculator wrong.

sorry, 2 billion dollars, not 2 trillion...

In 2007 alone, ~4,315,000 infants were born in the U.S. multiply that by $500 you've got over two trillion dollars in more government spending each year. $2,157,5000,000.00 to be precise. Even with the newborn death rate of ~ 40,000 newborn deaths per year that's still over the $2 trillion dollar mark. NO THANK YOU!!!

And pray tell, WHO is going to pay for this STUPID program? Is this going to be another redistribution of wealth crap full of corruption and out of control spending? This govt is so far out in looney ville, that they all need to be fired in 2010 before they actually kill the rest of us by giving us all heart attacks and strokes. My Gawd, what are they smoking up there on the hill?

NONE of these crazy schemes they are coming up with are in the constitution nor are they allowed.

If the Aspire Act passes in 2009 will all babies born this year get the $500.00 savings?

G of VA 7:08PM October 07, 2009

Sure. Just run the government money printing presses to pay for it. But, why stop at the $500. Let's give the kiddies a computer when they turn 10, and a Govt. Motors car when they turn 18. Then universal college, universal health care, universal electricity...
