Good tips overall but I'd add www.sortprice.com to the list of comparison shopping engines to use. I've had great success with Sortprice and they're the only CSE that offers an interactive shopping application on Facebook that is not only helpful but a lot of fun to use.

Because of the economy my BIG tip is to shop locally at those mom and pop places, where the owners work their tails off and don't get all of their merchandise from China and as left overs from big box stores. Those owners pay taxes locally and go to school with your kids, donate to all the fundraisers and give a great shopping vibe to your community. Support them first, then if you can't find what you are looking for, go for it everywhere else.
