Don't you think its time to enjoy your life...A trip to Europe is
something that you will never forget.

I have my home paid for, which is a blessing. Its older but still very functional. The same with my truck, its 11 years old and still does the job.
My income is not alot, but I pay my bills first, and after that, there just is not much left. I do have a few farm animals, and dogs, and that is my enjoyment. Just the simple things in life is what keeps me going.
I certainly feel for those who are in the foreclosure process, its not fun, I been there. Not a pretty sight. But I finally got thru the mess and am happy once again. I was terrified I would not be able to own anything again, but it eventually happened, and its paid for and I am certainly gonna keep it that way. I also find that I have less stress and less health problems with what I would call my new life. After the foreclosure, you learn alot, and also learn to do without alot.

I've worked for the same employer for 33 years and look forward to retirement. I have a defined benefit pension plan, and would get 65% of my salary plus COLA if I retired now, at 59. I also have a small defined contribution plan. My wife and I recently bought a second home and are renting the first home. The first is completely paid for; the second (near DC) is 90+ percent paid for. We live a frugal life. No debts, other than the small mortgage; no kids; two dogs; two cars, 8 and 9 years old; my wife doesn't work. Times are good, but we don't have money to waste on things like a vacation in Europe, which is what we would really like to do.

Most of my friends and family are more worried about avoiding homelessness and paying their bills right now. A vacation is the last thing on their minds. Three are awaiting foreclosure procedures. Those who can afford it are staying close to home - camping or sharing a cabin. As for me, I will be staying home to concentrate on getting a long term or perm job after 18 months of trying.
Companies want us consumers to spend but they won't hire us to put money in our accounts so we can buy their products. The vicious circle continues while the Dems try to build a socialist state as a solution. The Republicans are no better as they protect businesses who pay CEOs huge bonuses instead of hiring workers. Is it time for a third party?

Thanks for the stats on what others are doing so that I have something to compare myself to. We certainly are keeping things under control around here as I do not believe we are going to be out of the woods for a very long time, but that is just my own personal opinion for whatever it is worth.
I know quite a few individuals that are currently on unemployment that is ending in the next few weeks and they do not have jobs lined up to go to. There is a lot of fear and unknowing around here. Even if they are able to land that McDonald's job it will still not be enough to meet the basic needs and get the bills paid. One can only cut so much before there is nothing left to cut.
Staying on top of your toes and keeping your wallets and purses shut is about the only way to go for now.
