Another nice site for Southern California, Las Vegas, Nashville, New Orleans and Washington DC is www.YourBestDeals.com.

Groupon has to rely on many coupons going unfulfilled for the model to work. Based on a recent golf round discount in our area, I looked at the number of days for which the coupon was valid, the average time between tee times for a course, and the number of coupons Groupon says it sold, there was no way the course could provide tee times before the expiration date for the number of people who purchased a Groupon. That's not counting the course's other customers.

Check the expiration date. If it an outdoor promotion and it rains, you may have trouble getting the vendor to honor the coupon, like Cox Farms in Centreville. From their web site, here's what they said to their Groupon customers after it rained almost every day during the valid promotional dates:

"Contact Groupon for a Refund

You purchased your groupons from Groupon.com (not from Cox Farms).

Please contact Groupon customer service for refund requests, questions or concerns about your groupons."

It will be interesting to see how the group buying space continues to evolve because even though Groupon is getting a lot of press, the other sites like LivingSocial are growing just as fast. From a business owners POV I don't necessarily want to sell 3,000 vouchers at such a heavy discount, and the fact that the other sites are offering much more flexible merchant terms this makes them a much better option for me. Groupon is growing too big, too fast and they're acting like they're the only show in town.

These are all great things to know, especially if you are new to Groupon or similar sites. These sites and ideas are continuing to expand, so it's important to be familiar with them so you can take advantage of their great deals and discounts.

One great and easy way to save using these sites is by going to http://www.dailydealpool.com. They'll email you daily with a list of the best deals and sales in your area, saving you from having to search every website and ensuring you don't miss out on a great buy.
