How to Avoid an IRS Audit

I have always read that making mistakes even small mistakes will trigger an audit.

This year I made two mistakes. I put down I had paid estimated taxes, thinking that is what withholding is. I used a program and when I filled out my w2 online it added the figure again so it showed me paying double withholding than I did. I ended up owing $200 instead of getting an $800 refund after I filed an amended tax form.

It was a hassle to do the amended returns, so I will take more time the first time I file instead of amending later.

I am currently going thru my 3rd audit! I won the fight on the first two, so now they are trying to get me on a third one....when is enough enough?? How many are they legally allowed to do? They still owe me my refund from 2010....

There are several tax sites that can help average people -this one I found

is "wisegeeks.com" , very helpful - especially in the area of 1099 forms

Its best to go to an IRS audit with some kind of record for the deductions, or else the deduction will probably not be allowed. Simple records, such as in a notebook, are better than no records at all as far as mileage deductions go. For actual purchases, the IRS will probably demand the actual receipts and/or bank stements.

It is always important to have representation when dealing with IRS issues, especially an audit. I made the mistake of trying to represent myself and it didn't fair too well.

ConsumerTaxReports.Org reviews tax companies and provides reports and information on who can represent you with your tax issue.
