Here is a case study of how one woman increased her salary $15,000 with an option for $15,000 more: http://www.salarynegotiators.com/corporate-recruiter-salary-negotiation/

Wow I feel empowered already! I have to negotiate on Monday and I'm a 26 year old woman, its now or never I'm not waiting to start standing up for what I'm worth. I will start on Monday, I hope I still get the job though :) Thank you for your words

Very good advice, especially for women. It's a shame that women often shy away from well deserved raises because they don't want to be labelled. Interestingly enough, I read a piece at the Huffington Post by David Larson of http://www.negotiatingsalary.com, and he points out that men are more likely to start negotiating salaries at an earlier age than women. (He calls it losing your salary virginity). Even a small raise might not be a big deal in your twenties, but by the time you hit your forties and beyond, that little bit extra results in much larger wages for men than their female counterparts. Women need to learn not to settle for what is offered and ask for better hours or better wages, just like the men do.
