well the travel agent knows a lot more and had more inf and suggestion they can give you about the place you wanna go and they can research for you, some people who dont have the time and very busy they can rely on the travel agency to find the great deal for the flights, hotel and rental car...and they can suggest a good place to eat and try...diff things they think you will enjoy........

Wonderful article. As a professional travel advisor and agency owner, and member of the No. 1 travel group, Virtuoso,® we are proud to put on just about every itinerary we send out: "We are delighted to extend these exclusive and complimentary Virtuoso® amenities to you. They represent an added value of" -- and then we put the actual dollar figure of savings, anywhere from $800 to $4,000! We make the planning fun; we make the trip as perfect as possible -- and we are there 24/7 if there is a question or a problem. We have some clients who will board the Eastern & Oriental Express luxury train in Bangkok tomorrow -- and we have just communicated with the STEWARD on board the train who has promised: "We will treat Mr. & Mrs. B like a King and Queen." How many people can do that for themselves? As we like to say, "You can't VIP yourself." Travel professionals are just that: professionals in travel who spend hundreds of hours yearly in study and in travel to make your trip wonderful.

Great article - 20 years in the industry and business is actually better than ever. Those of us that are true consultants and experts find a great satisfaction in taking care of our clients right, and saving them money. We expect a client to bring us something they have found online, and it is our job to ask them why they want it and if its right for their vacation memory book.

I became a travel agent because my travel agent forgot to tell me almost everything important about my first BIG trip/investment. I became a travel agent myself 27 years ago and I spend all day every day learning more about travel. I love what I do and it can be exasperating for me so I know what a laymen (travel agent want to be) goes through. We let the pro's do so much for us in life. However the internet wants us to beleave "travel is EASY".

You do what you do best, let me do what I do best. You will have more fun, and less stress, better memories!

Indeed it is a nice piece on our work! Thanks. As my colleagues above stated, I too travel a lot to inspect proprieties, attend trade shows and keeping up date with everything in order to deliver a fine service. It amazes me that some people may think that designing a trip is just a matter of two clicks and you're on the plane... I also think that airlines they are not being fair with our hard work as well... Specially because they offer all components of a trip sometimes, but... Where is the personalization? the care for detail? the understanding of what is the profile and motivations of the passenger to lead them to the experience that will match the best its motivation?
