This has been going for decades... banks making money off your money....credit card companies making money off your money...and then telling you your responsible for any loss of monies...You don't need these people living off your hard earned wages and earnings; they are nothing more than parasites feeding off our society. My advise is don't use credit cards and don't use banks period. Give some thought about how you can protect your money (you have ways so give it some thought) and believe me, once it dawns on you, to break away, you can kiss these banks and credit card companies goodbye for good.

And I thought my English was bad. Well Mr Bortz, although your article is extremely informative, I am sorry to say but you goofed up big time. In the last line of the para 'Bad forms of identification', you say "Xerox your passport" Now thats really hilarious. I thought Xerox was the name of the company. The name of the process, is PHOTOCOPY my friend. :)

You don't want all your eggs in one basket. Bank at 2 or more institutions; one preferably being a credit union. Then if have to cancel a card due to identify theft, you still have access to money for the next 10 days until your replacement card arrives.
Same goes for credit cards, you want to have 2 card in case you need to order a replacement. Like I said, don't put all your eggs in one basket

You have to carry your driver's license which has identifying information on it. I don't think a medical facility would accept a copy of your medicare and pharmacy card with the medicare number, which is the same as your social security number, whited out. They want to see the actual card. I don't know about this advice. Not all of it seems very good to me.

Should people not carry checkbooks? Checks have your name and address, phone numbers, bank account number and the banks routing number.
